The shop manual file (downloaded from this forum) indicates that the 1125 has a gear position and battery voltage readout in the display. I cannot find this on my '08. Did the instrument cluster get an upgrade for '09?

Edit: crap! Just used the proper "search" phrase and found the update info.

They dropped the AT display on the 08 in favour of the gear indicator on the 09 and 10 models.

I put a TrackDay Electronics gear indicator on my SV and find it to be a handy bit of bling. Gonna check with them and see if the Buell harness can be accessed easily to mount one. After first gear, I quickly lose where I am in the shift pattern.

Just pick up an 09 cluster... The 08 cluster had a battery drain issue if you killed the bike with the key instead of the kill switch anyway.

09-10 is a plug and play unit.

Yes, when you put the 09 cluster on the 08 you should gain all the functions. It really is plug and play. You just have to give it time to marry to the ecm.

It's my understanding that you have to get a cluster that's not been used before or else your mileage will be off (that information is stored in the cluster)... There are some places that will "reset" them for you though.

Can somebody confirm this? I've not done it myself, but that's my understanding from the searches that I've done.

Got an '09 cluster and while re-reading this thread, I noticed the comment by B2tomtom about getting the ECM to link up. Any directions on how to do this? Plug in, turn the key on and wait?

Bingo. When you plug it in, you will see a countdown on the display, after it reaches zero it downloads the VIN, mileage, and other info from the ECM.

Thanks Froggy. I was thinking dark-of-the-moon, cemetery, black cats and incantations! :-)
