Anyway to identify Thunderstorm heads that are on a bike and the numbers are not visible? And I know they were all black, but they sell paint you know. I noticed the 3 fins on the top right side of front head, the middle fin is a little shorter where it ends parallel the front isolator mounting hole. On my 95 S2 they are all even. Are 96-98 Lightning, or any other heads that way? Thanks! Mike |

Upon further inspection, my S2 heads are the same in that area...the fins are just highlighted to an even line..brain fart :-( Any other casting differences that would differentiate T-Storms heads from others? |

I would seriously doubt any casting differences, differences would be made up internally in the machining process |

It seems like you should be able to look into the exhaust ports at the exhaust valves and see the difference. |

My X1 heads have the same fin pattern in that area. You need to get a billet front mount though, before that nasty factory one lets you down. |

There are differences in the top end. I think I uploaded pics in the S2 area about a year or so ago. I'll take a look. It *seems* like Thunderstorm has three fins across the top and standard heads are open. Or is it vice versa.... |

Thunderstorm is open. Standard head has fins. I can't tell you what a Lightning head looks like but it would be interesting to know. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/599726.html#POST1933319 FWIW, not only can fins be painted to look like T-Storm, black fins can be sanded so they look like the original heads from the side. |
