my x1 the paint on the motor is still good. but does anyone in here know of products or what do they use to clean and protect the paint from fading chiping away? reason I ask I used my old can of engine brightner. I use to used on my old bike, but I tried a little and it still look the same no shine nothing. the paint on it now is not faded looks real good but it is a 99 so I like to keep it looking like that.

Tire shine on the black paint works wonders. Its on the archived site X1 files. I don't have a link to it but I know someone does.

Armor all. Blackens it up and also keeps dirt from sticking. Apply liberally, let it dry. Pretty cheap too.

Wash first, then spray with "S100 Engine Brightener"; most HD dealers have it. It darkens the krinkle finish back to deep black but is not sticky like Armor All or Tire Cleaner.

Guy at the HD dealer turned me onto it when I first got my S3. The stuff works great.

4th on the S100. HD dealer sells it. Made in Germany.

Most economical size is the 1 gallon. About $54.

S100 is nice, but its pricey, and it doesn't last very long. I used to use it. I switched to armor-all a few years ago and haven't looked back. Heat doesn't appear to affect it.

Any silicon spray will bring the engine up nice and black , you don't need to spend a lot of money on the expensive brand names ; )
