I am in the process of replacing my stator on my 2001 buell blast. All parts off except for clutch assembly. The inner nut spins but so does the clutch, can't break it loose. Bike is in first gear, using a cheater bar to hold gears from spinning an foot on rear brake. Anymore tips to stop clutch from spinning? |

Are you aware that it is left hand thread? There's a special tool, a bar of plastic, that jams between the two gears and immobilizes them. Using the wheel and brake to hold the clutch is more stressful on it than an impact driver would be. |

I tried to help him with it. We tried both ways. When you try to loosen the nut, both the nut and the inside of the clutch turns. The gear that the clutch attaches to as well as the starter, is not moving. Just the clutch and the retaining nut. I am aware that it is left handed thread, its just not breaking free. |

Your ring gear has broken its rivets and is no longer attached to the clutch basket. Use an impact gun to remove the nut and a torque wrench to install the new basket. |

If the ring gear is undamaged it can be re-attached. This just happened to my softtail. |

I'll have to try and get it off with an air impact. I tried the electric impact and it didn't do squat. |

Wear a heavy gardening or welding glove and hold the basket. Take your wristwatch off. |

Electric impact should do the trick. |
