Sounds like you had fun. Glad someone was out riding. I contemplated zip-tying the chin fairing as a temp fix but got a visual of the damn thing coming off and going underneath the rear wheel. No, thanks. I'll wait for the part.

Well I took off to San Diego for the weekend. Left really late saturday night and hit rain in Yuma at about 1am...ok, busted out the rainsuit and kept on going. Hit San Diego about 4am. Feeling like a drowned rat. Spent all day Sunday playing with my kids and made the wise move to stay over til this morning. Only got rained on heavy leavign San Diego and arriving in Phoenix, other wise it was dry enough that I stayed dry. Hit Phoenix and didn't even bother with the rainsuit..."20 miles to go...15 miles to go...10 miles to go..." Damn glad I spent 2 hours sealing my leathers a couple weeks ago : D

Bartimus,
Give me a call when you getup and going tomorrow. Maybe we can go for a scoot b4 you go to work.
I tried to upload some pictures from San Carlos but the format is too large and I'm having trouble sizing them down. If you take a look at some of the pics-you'll want to ride to Mexico with me. The roads are full of high speed turns, there arent toooooo many potholes! I'll send these pics to your email so you can see them. I ordered my fuel-tank accents tonight. I didnt get the carbon fiber, I want to paint them to offset the tank. Accents, ForceWinder, Chunks of plastic taken off here and there-the bike might be presentable then!

Dbalista, I have to agree with Bartimus about the Barnett, the stock is an 8 plate and I put in a 9 plate, "what a serious hookup", but this setup does not like slippage so you have to commit to engagement. For me I'm hooked on this setup, good luck with the decisions.

Arizona guys:
I'm looking for a route across your fine state during my trip this summer (info can be found at http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show.cgi?tpc=4062&post=235700#POST 235700 ), can any of you suggest some good places to visit? This ride is being done to raise money for the American Cancer Society in a friend's name. I'm planning about 500 mile days. My point of embarkation is probably going to be San Diego, but it might end up being LA, not sure yet. Regardless, AZ is on the list. From San Diego, I was planning on superslabbing it through most of the state, and staying at one of the small towns in the eastern part of the state. Any suggestions of a route? If any of you are around too, I'd love to meet ya. I am currently planning on rolling through in the July 26-27-28 time frame. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Alex

I'm thinking you will want I40, but I10 works too. If I40, then Holbrook is a good place. I think it's about two hours from the NM border. If you want closer to NM, I know of a great little truck stop where someone could get a picture of you sleeping under a sign that reads "Danger - Poisonous insects and Reptiles inhabit this area" or something like that.

If your superslabbing it from San Diego take the I-8 through Yuma to SR-85 at Gila Bend. This will bring you up to the I-10 to Phoenix. If yu want to go on towards Tuscon you can stay on the I-8. If you choose to come up through Phoenix you can connect up to the I-17 and take that towards Flagstaff which will connect you up to the I-40 to NM. I really enjoy the stretch of I-17 just north of Phoenix towards Flagstaff through Black Canyon. I just rode the route from San Diego this last weekend. It was very wet but still enjoyable.

Awprior,
You ever been here at that time of year? I highly recomend staying North. Central and Southern Az will be HOT! Not too HOT... Just HOT! That is when we sit inside and utilize the BadWeB! The 191 on the eastern portion of the state rocks! As well, the Northern portion will be perfect at that time. Grand Canyon Buell, just west of Flagstaff on I-40, are Buell friendly. Keep us posted, I'll try and meet up with you somewhere out there.

I've been in Arizona in the summer, in the Mesa/Phoenix area. My grandparents lived in Mesa for years, but have since decided to pack up and move to Los Angeles. They said the heat was too much, now I ask about the smog. Heck of a tradeoff. I am aware of the heat, great stuff to be out in. It reminds me of being in a hay mile in a barn where the temps at the peak would be 130 degrees. Just a bit warm. Not to digress though, I'll take a look at those routes through AZ, I plan on spending the first night somewhere in the eastern part of the state, then continuing through UT, northern TX and Oklahoma to St. Louis. I'd ideally like to do part of the day on the superslab, and part of the day on smaller roads. It's a great country, I'd like to see more than the back or trucks along the way. I saw some 2 laners south of all of the interstates close to some town with snow in the name (map isn't in front of me) that looked like a nice side track. That was probably 60 miles or so from UT.
Thanks for the suggestions.
Alex

Hey Al! Any luck with David and his S1? I somehow deleted your e-mail with your cell number! E-mail me or drop me a line here. I'm curious if you be riding a black or silver S1! Azfirebolt posted that AZ bike week is coming. Hey Tucson guys, are we gonna try to run up there?

Awprior,
If your going into Utah, via AZ, then you'll probably be going right up through the middle of the state. Take I-17, out of Phoenix, It has some nice curves just north of town and some beautiful scenery as you get up towards Flagstaff. If your gonna zig-zag across the states, I assume you'll be coming in on I-8. If you do, get on I-10 north, and get off about 10 miles later on hwy 287, this will take you to Florence. Take hwy 79 north to Florence Junction, and right onto US 60. Stay on 60 through Globe and on up to Showlow, AZ. This is some Buelltiful riding country, You'll go through the Salt River Canyon. Nice curves! Showlow is on the east side of the state, here you can opt to stay overnight, or take hwy61 to hwy 180 and on up to Holbrook. This will put you about 2 hrs from the New Mexico state line. OR... from Showlow, head east on US 60, into New Mexico. this is some MORE great riding roads. This will take you to Socorro, NM. Here you can get on I-25 and head on up to Albuquerque, and either continue north into Colorado, or East into the Texas Panhandle. If your in the Albuquerque area, go up to Santa Fe HD/BUELL. They are VERY Buell friendly and can help you if you are having any problems.

I will be living in Phoenix by the time you come through. If work permits, I'll ride with you part way. I hope you enjoy your trip, and the best of luck to you. Ping me if you need anything.

Brian,
In all the years I lived in Phoenix, I never did participate in the AZ bike week festivities. It always seemed geared towards the weekend rider crowd. You know, the ones that only take their bikes out if it's guaranteed to be sunny and nice? They are more into socializing than riding.
Anyway, a ride is in order regardless of the reason, right? I believe most of the festivities surround the Phoenix area, maybe we should try to make one or two up in the Cave Creek area? That way, we can at least hit Bartlett Lake and get some good curves in. Then we can go and do some socializing...

AL,
how's the bike situation coming? Are you a Buell
Whore yet?

I'm off to work finally. Y'all have fun...

Bart,
My bike is up and running well finally, still sans
air cleaner but I have the intake covered with medical grade filter fabric for now. Still looking for an air cleaner though. Any suggestions? Buell race kit, crossroads, force?
When are you headed for San Carlos? I have been down there many times diving and just vacationing and will be down with my family mid-March for a week.
Keep in touch, I have to work Saturday, but if Sunday looks nice how about a ride?
Art.....

You guys missed a good weekend in NM at the arroyo seco track. The owner Roger is a good guy... Check this out... Me and 3 others mistakenly went to the track on Sat and the track day was Sunday. I called Roger and said "whats Up" he said i will come and let you guys rent the track on sat because we will cleaning up anywayz.. So we did... I even had the ALtima on the track it was nice..... all day. When we got ready to leave he said if any of us come back on Sunday we could ride for free..... WAY coooolll....
I was there, with only Buell at the track, I can tell you I think riding has reached another level now for me... Made alot of big bikes look real bad and even a lot of race bikes look bad also... It was fun and i did not even lay it down... Anywayz we will all have to go one day...
More to come.... And yes they liked the silver XB9R heheheheh

Cheers
David

Brian,
The S1 looked good. Gave him a deposit. On the way home I started thinking-Is that a 98 or 97. Called him up, said it was a 98, looked at the title, and it's a 97. Small heads, different pistons. Now I'm totally confused. I want the HP over the lower milege. Told him I'd let him know in a day or two.
Bart,
BuellWhore? Yes. Multiple Buell Owner? Not Yet! Still Trying!!!
David
Sounds like a good time and a terrific learning experience going to NM. Did you blow off any of that silver paint around the track? hehehehe
