ok I just went to turn her on and noticed the fuel pump did not cut on, so I turn the keys and it cut on. I know the tumbler is loose now but when I touched behind it the three wire coming to it get extremely hot and so does the tumbler could the tumbler inside be bad or could it be the wires are dry rotted? I took a pic of the wires coming from the ignition towards the wiring harness clip and noticed one of them is exposed but I am not even sure if its in the correct pin anyone got info on the wiring diagram on this? |

You have two options. 1...buy a new ignition at HD. You can have them key the new one to match the old 2...buy an aftermarket one that doesn't fit your dash (you'll need to file out the dash hole), then carry around TWO keys forever more! I'll bet you can guess which one I'd do if I was you. |

so the tumbler being bad will cause the wires to heat up the way they do?? |

cheaper is the aftermarket solution. what happens in the OEM keyswitch is the contacts become corroded, thus not making full contact. this in turn causes lots of heat. |

American Sport Bike, X1 ignition switch ~ $35. You'll need to swap the wiring order otherwise its a good fit. Much better than OEM. Key will fit gas tank but not the underseat storage lock. |

Put a toggle switch in temporarily. Hide it. |

I think your odds at winning the powerball are better than trying to repair the switch. Al sells the drag specialties switch which is intended for a Dyna for less than $30. A little modification to the back side of the mount and reverse the wires with the white and black tracers and its good to go. |

The new switch has 3 red wires, one solid red,one with white tracer one with black. The oem harness is colored the same but you have to reverse the wires with the black/white tracers for it to have the proper ignition/park lamp sequence. |

I added a relay to the OEM switch. Now the switch only has to carry the relay coil current, and the relay carries everything else. No more heat, no more cooked contacts. FYI, the current for the starter solenoid runs through the ignition switch. I believe this to be the primary reason these switches fail, and also the cause of starting issues as the contacts begin to fry. |
