Hey guys, My son broke his belt on his 2009 xb Firebolt has only like 14,000 miles on it...Are these belts good for life$$$? | ||

They are covered under the standard 2 year unlimited mile warranty, so if your bike is under warranty it can be replaced at no cost to you (assuming the dealer doesn't give you a hard time) | ||

OH had thought I heard the newer ones for good for life 2006 or so were for 25,000 So its only covered for 2 years like you say? Thanks | ||

Yes starting with 2006 models, all XBs now have the lifetime belt, meaning it doesn't have any scheduled replacement interval and should last the life of the bike. It gets treated like any other part of the bike like headlight bulbs, seat latches, or the thousand other parts that in theory shouldn't ever need replacement but sometimes fail. If it does fail, it gets replaced under warranty. | ||

LOL so Lifetime belts me Shit...Only good while under the standard 2 year warranty... Then why not just say belts are warranty for the 2 years that comes with the xb Buells,Instead of saying LIFETIME lol.. Am I missing something here..Just sounds like a lot of Mumble Jumble etc...    | ||

"Lifetime Belt" means it has no mandatory replacement interval like a chain would have. You can replace it at normal intervals if you wish, and in fact if you do you will have NO problem selling the used one. Lots of us ran the original belt up to 25k miles or so, bought and installed a new belt, and keep the old belt in a safe place as a hot spare (mine is in a side bag). | ||

The belt is designed to last the lifetime of the bike, just like every other part that doesn't have a replacement interval. Things happen, belts get damaged or abused and then break. Same can be said about voltage regulators, stators, gas caps, wheel bearings, kickstand springs and every thing else that could possibly break with use. There are bikes out there with over 60k miles on their original belt, bearings, stator, oil cooler, crankshaft, and so on, then some others are not as lucky and their bike is a basket case that constantly breaks things. | ||

Well All that said..Still it still sounds to me ,just a marketing speech to say the least... I know where ya all are coming from..But I* wdn`t say Lifetime on something IF still it could break after 2 or 3 years...With nothing causing said belt to break.... Thats just me... I know I would be disappointed in a frame that was meant to last the lifetime of the bike, but failed like these "lifetime" belts do. It is nothing but marketing lingo for a part that tends to break at unpredictable intervals. I've decided to replace mine at about 25K intervals after the first broke at just past 36K. Store the used belt as a spare just in case. YMMV. | ||

Doz, IF I were to base a belts life today on the normal marriages, I guess that would be a fair statement, Since atleast 50 % of them or more fail early  Sifo,  Okay thanks guys! | ||

It was absolutely marketing speak. I broke one of the 'Lifetime' belts after 600 miles use (on track, so no bumps or potholes to worry about). The belt didn't snap but just delaminated and failed. I sent it back to H-D UK and didn't even get a response or reply from them. I put a chain drive kit on straight after that  | ||
