Well, at 45,825 my clutch cable had had enough and broke right as I was entering my driveway. I had already bought a new cable when I noticed the old one had a couple broken strands, so I had one on hand. It was getting late and I was losing light on the car port, but decided to start taking the old one off anyway. I took it off to the point where it was laying straight out on the ground, with the clutch end still installed. Figured it would be alright until morning. WRONG. Overnight primary fluid ran through the cable housing and leaked all over the carport. So in addition to completing the repair I now have to get some cat sand and clean up a big mess. So let this serve as a warning. Don't leave the clutch cable laying on the ground for a long time if still installed in the primary, because it will leak!! Other than that, the repair went well. I adjusted the clutch as well, and am now able to start the bike while in gear by pulling on the clutch lever. It's been a while since I was able to do that. Clutching feels a lot better now! |

Billy Crystal used to say in his Saturday Night Live skits....."I hate when that happens!" |

A more important tip than that- the threaded fitting where the clutch cable screws into the primary case is made of aluminum and will snap off if you apply much more than ~10 in-lbs of torque. DAMHIK There's nothing quite like getting a new clutch cable for ~$40 including shipping so you can finally ride your newly acquired S3, snapping it off in the primary ~30 minutes later, necessitating another $40 expenditure and another week of waiting for another new clutch cable before you can ride. |

Hey, at least you don't have to worry about the cable being lubed now! |

I knew from reading on here that the thread fitting could snap, so I was careful not to over tighten! It was the old cable that got lubed. Not the new one. |
