2000 buell blast. Front fairing removed replaced with a leather tool pouch (with headlight lowered so it'll fit). While driving I'm noticing a strange clicking sound that seems to correspond with the engine rpms (which made me think it was valve noise at first, but as far as I can tell it's not). But I don't think it is. For one it's not present while sitting still and idling, and two seems to be originating in that gordian mass of wires behind the headlight. Has anyone had any experience with this before? Any ideas on how I can figure out where the sound is coming from (remember I can't hear it while idling). I'll post a picture when I get home so you guys can see the set up. |

How loud is it? Is it the front brakes? Is it the rear belt? Both can make a clicking noise. I'd suggest finding a hill and coast down it. (Message edited by Gearheaderiko on September 13, 2013) |

That's a good idea! I wrapped all the plastic electric connectors in some cloth to keep them from vibrating, and it still didn't go away. I'll try the hill thing today and see what I can figure out. |

Here is a picture of what it looks like.

Well it could be those straps flapping against the grill. But I doubt it. |

No it's not the flaps, those were just untucked for that picture. I ran it down a hill, with the engine off the other day, and still heard the sound. With closer inspection it seems to be coming from the brakes. I checked the rotor, and it's even. Any other ideas as to what it could be? |

Well, I'd say it was normal except that you can hear it at 40mph? Belt or brakes make a clicking noise. If someone took the brakes apart and didn't put them all back together. The assembly could be extremely worn and that could make a bunch of noise, but that more likely to happen on an old bike with a lot if miles (100,000+) Check your wheel bearings. |

Ok so it's definitely the front brake assembly vibrating. I should have known it would have been something like that, because I just noticed it after I took it into a shop to get the tires swapped. Is there anyway to tighten the assembly to the front forks so it doesn't shake so much? Tightening the mounting screws doesn't do anything. I'm not quite sure what to wrench, and I'm a little hesitant to go all crazy with something as important as the front brakes. |

Is the caliper tight (does it feel tight)? Tightening the brake pad pin screws won't do anything except strip them out now or later when you have to remove them. |

Caliper wiggles a little, but not too much. It seems like the rubber grommets that mount the assembly to the mounting brackets aren't tight in the holes as they should be. |
