Thanks for the encouragement!! I really enjoyed riding this bike and my other Buells over the past 8 years but I'm a dad now . My 4 year old daughter likes having her dad home every day. I'll get another motorcycle when she's older. Maybe some dirt bikes if she wants to ride!!! Anyways, My Ulysses is still available... |

E-mails responded to. Some interesting trade have been offered but for the next few years I will be taking a break from all 2 wheel adventures. I don't want to trade for another motorcycle. Any offers? |

Well, as a prospective Buell buyer (in Nebraska, so me saying this is purely an objective opinion) dings in the frame are an absolute turn off. It's got high miles, which on any engine that ISN'T just a 60hp Harley with another forty hp squeezed out isn't an issue, but with these you start to see a lot of threads in the technical section with mileage around this level. Especially pre-08. Given the miles and the dent, I'd have to have a screaming good deal to be interested (assuming I was in the area,) though again that's just me telling you what I see in it since you seem to be wondering why it's still on the market. It's a good looking bike though, and for the right person it'll be the right bike! I hope I haven't offended you, feel free to delete the comment (or ask me to if you can't in your own thread; haven't been here too long) if you don't want it on your page, I'm just objectively sharing my point of view! No offense taken. I've owned several other XB's and I've seen issues with dented frames too. Personally, I wouldn't be afraid to buy a bike that has tipped over but not everybody has the garage and tools to work on their own stuff. I've seen the threads on higher mileage pre-08 bikes too. This Uly was my commuter and weekend trip bike. I had a Lightning SS for track days and canyon riding and sold it to a friend last year. He or one of my other friends would've bought this bike too but they didn't like riding such a "tall" bike. Anyways, I still have it and I'm open to offers. |

First off Good on You for wanting to be a good Dad. Motorcycling was my life when I met my kids' mom (motorcycling by the way) and as the kids started arriving the bikes started sitting. First she stopped riding then eventually I just didn't have time anymore what with all the goings on with three rapidly growing kids. Brought the Beemer out of mothballs a couple times long enough to take them on some rides (which set the hook for motorcycling for them in the future!) but I didn't really get back into it until they were grown and in 2006 I bought my Uly. Single again and broodless I put 25K per year the first two years on the bike, and it was no picnic. The BB&D forum is full of my input about my first Buell experience. However my annual mileage dropped drastically after that due to economic events, but so did the troubles. Not saying the last 40K have been trouble free but not nearly the issues. I'm preparing to overhaul it right now, I wanted to go 100K first but I've got a bad lifter I'm tired of listening to and the 2-3 shift is clunky. Point(s) of my hijack of your thread is you'll never get back that time you could have spent with your kids, you can always ride later. Mine grew up to be great adults, I'm so proud of them I could bust. Second, 41K is no big deal IMHO so as stated earlier hang in there, it's a great looking bike but it might take awhile. Maybe just keep it! Kept mine I met my kids' mom on:
Daughters got the moto bug too, #1 on the left rides street and #2 rides dirt:
Lastly, we lived in NP for years, I moved away in 2008 and man do I miss the Santa Monica mountains! |

Thanks for the kind words Xbimmer, my daughter turned 4 this year and went to the Rockstore with me, in my Jeep, every Sunday from 9 months until her 3rd birthday. She still likes looking at motorcycles with me but has no interest in riding anything other than her big wheel. I race rc at the club level and she is very interested in joining me at the track so I feel lucky there. I'll pick up a motorcycle sometime in the future...when shes grown. I Bluebooked my Uly a while back and it showed the value to be around $4500. With the cases and other add-ons I figured $5000 would be reasonable. Everything has sold off so I'm left with the bike. Whats a good price, $3500? I'm open to offers. |

I think 3500 will sell, relist it with 3500 and the pics. I'm considering a Ully but I'm not in the market right now....shouldn;t have sold the hard bags, luggage is part of the draw. 5000 is going to be close to dealer price, 3500 will move it, I think. I'd buy it. |

Greetings, You are getting closer to "part-out" pricing with each drop in $$$. The frame is a bummer as another member has stated. Personally, I just would not take the chance. I am however interested in a parts bike that would act as support for my 08 Uly which seems to be a constant challenge to keep running since I purchased it 3 months ago. So, in my case, the frame would be discarded. In just the last 2 months my bike has cost me over $2500 in parts and repair...and I still have a laundry list of things to do on it. Good luck whatever you decide to do. |

Tdiddy, For what it's worth (my thoughts)..... I just bought an '06 Uly WITH Buell side and top cases, two seats, and with only 3,000 miles on it for $5300 a month ago. It's never even been ridden in the rain before (per original owner that I bought it from). It's as close to mint as you're gonna get for a 8 year old bike. Yes, I got a good deal on it, and I've put some more money into it since then (engine mount isolator, Madstad windshield/brackets, handlebar risers, footpeg brackets, gear, etc.), but a low mileage bike will always sell if in decent shape. With 41,000 miles on yours, that knocks out a majority of potential buyers right out of the gate, regardless of condition and how many awesome aftermarket goodies are on it, because most people do take into consideration resale value on their major purchases if/when they go to sell it down the road after racking up some miles on it. Most Buellers will have 50k miles on it before you know it. Resale value takes another serious hit at that milestone. Plus, with Uly's being such a tall bike, that limits the market of potential buyers down even further, as inseam-challenged riders can't ride these things. Sir Wadsalot is right. The bags are one of the biggest reasons people buy this particular model bike. Without them, you'll have to lower the price of the bike accordingly, I'd estimate probably around $1,000 over one with Buell bags, which are getting harder and harder to get a hold of seperately. If you lower your bike's price any lower than $3500 to sell it, you'll be entering BLAST price territory. That's sad, since your Uly is so much more awesome than a BLAST. If I were you, I would just keep it, ride it once or twice a month to maintain your sanity, and get some enjoyment out of it, since you may not be able to get much for it. It's a really clean, sharp-looking bike. It looks like you took really good care of it and spent alot of time adding some decent stuff to it. It would be a shame to see all that time and expense go with it. But if you absolutely HAVE to sell it, and you're in no hurry to, wait until spring 2014, then lower the price a little bit more around 2014 Memorial Day weekend to help it along if not sold by then. You can also try auctioning it off on Ebay (with a reserve) if you just want it out of your garage. Good luck to you. |

Good points from everybody. It seems that 41k miles is a bit high for the age of the bike. It can be hard to accept from a stranger selling a bike with so many miles... saying that it is perfect, but the truth of the matter is I would be comfortable selling this to my best friend. I've never had any issues with the motor/transmission. The dent in the frame is slight but hidden by the puck. There is no hole, so no leakage but I fully understand the concern. I would keep it but when its gone, I can park my car in the garage. I do get e-mails about the bike but no buyers yet. I'm sure after a test ride...it will sell. |
