I've been pouring over the forums, and it seems the most likely scenario is answered with this I found from EZ Blast on Buell Riders Online, quoth the raven: "Ugh - I put the whole procedure up some where - sigh - you need 2 new detent clips, a detent plate, you'll be adjusting the drum pins and leaching a drop of red locktite on each base top of each pin, you'll be doing the shift-pawl adjustment as well as the clutch adjustment, would suggest chamfering the edges of the stator wire protection plate while in there as well, inspect chain tension-er shoe, perhaps replace, need new primary gaskets, two o-rings, and perhaps a new shift shaft seal - if the old leaks when re-installed, a lot of times they don't. Nothing real tricky to it - any one can make the special tool needed - lol EZ" I'm also assuming I should get the Baker drum. |

The bike has 10,700 miles. Are there any other upgrades or parts replacement I should do at this time to ward off some future issues? |

im going to open it and hope it is the clip on the drum plate. if it's not, and I have to go to the tranny side, I'm either going to end my riding season and make it highly educational project , or pay Great Lakes Harley -Buell to do it. even so I've already learned a lot , I spent most if yesterday reading about what's under the left side cover and servicing it. geez, my Jap bike owner friend, sees my Blast in the shop every 3000 miles in the summer (motor mount, exhaust , new rear wheel, now the tranny,) and his never needs service. he wants me to go rice , but for numerous reasons I'm still sold on the Blast, one of the main reasons is that's its not what I call "a boat bike " one that's brought out on nice days for leisure, mine is used for work and errands, and the P3 is perfect for that , not a lot of $1000 fairings to ruin or chrome bits to scratch up . ie I spend more time riding it than cleaning it, lol |

You need more than one bike in your stable ... I have the 2002 BLAST! ... and mine seems to be reliable ... for local errands, commuting (two miles), and fun rides. Then I have a 2002 Honda Goldwing ... BUILT IN MARYSVILLE, OHIO ... with an 1800 cc six engine. This bike is for touring, usually two up, and has seen roads from Idaho to Maine. We just rolled up 100,000 miles on the 'Wing. Then I still have my first bike ... and she runs ... a 1980 Honda CM400A. Great little "starter bike". http://soliddesign.net/~tom/Airplanes/DSCN3722.JPG http://soliddesign.net/~tom/BuellandWing2.JPG |
