I just got my new handlebars prepped on put on yesterday, but I ran into a problem. Once I tighten down the screws in my throttle assembly the throttle handle stops recoiling. The cables recoil fine outside of the housing, and even in the housing before everything gets tightened down, I don't know what to try next. |

Tony, I really don't know the answer, but is there a chance you installed SuperBars? If so the SuperBars are a couple of inches wider than the factory bars and that could be causing the problem because of increased tension on the cables. Yes I did, I also trimmed them down since they are a bit wider and then I also rerouted the cables to try to reduce the sharpness of the bends. |

Check to verify that the grips aren't pushed on so far that they're creating resistance & preventing the recoil. Voice of experience) |

Checked that both on the side against the throttle assembly and on the side against the bar end mirrors. |

Did you cut the locater nubs off the switch housing? That could tweak the housing enough to cause interference. Also improper assembly of the housing/throttle cable can cause problems. The cables are plenty long enough and if they move freely before tightening down the housing, the housing is your problem. |

I don't see anything in the housing that looks broken. One of my friends told me to stop complaining about it and to just enjoy the cruise-control-like functionality. |

Did you drill holes in the handlebars for the locater nubs on the switch housings? Did you cut the locater nubs off the housings? |

I drilled holes into the handlebars for the nubs. |

Improper assembly if it the cables move freely before the switch housing is tightened down. Its not hard to do. The throttle housing and cables are keyed for a specific placement in the housing. Look at it carefully. (and, fwiw, those nubs will probably shear off in time and you'll never have to drill another set of bars again!) |

yeah it all seems pretty straight forward, I see how everything fits together which is why I am so confused as to why its not working. I think I might try a touch of cable lube on the throttle cables and some graphite in between the handlebars and the throttle tube and then some in the housing as well. |

Shouldnt be that difficult that you need to lube everything up. If, off the handlebar, the throttle twists and recoils easily, the problem is in installing the housing. If it wont turn then the cables are pinched somewhere-not hard to do. You're missing something. I've had a variety of different handlebars from stock to drag bars, to clip ons, to superbars, to Laverda's, so length isnt a problem unless you're using taller handlebars than stock. Lubing isnt a bad idea, but it shouldnt be used to solve a problem you didnt have before you installed the new bars. |

I spoke with someone who had the same problem on their Harley, he said a new set of cables fixed it. |

Okay. Was it fine before you changed the bars? If it was, then you did something wrong. If you replace the cables and tweak them the same way, you'll have 2 sets if bad cables. It's cheaper to just pull the tank and look at the entire length of the cable. No kinks and they worked before the bar change, then your cables are good. (You'd best pull the tank anyway if you change cables). Have you assembled the throttle grip off the bars? Does it work properly then? If it does work, then you're installing the housing wrong. Replacing parts just because you don't know what's wrong can get expensive. Cables aren't rocket science and replacing them just because it worked for somebody else, on a different motorcycle, doesn't make sense without taking a good look at them. You either kinked them or you didn't. Over thirty years riding and wrenching and I've never had to buy replacement throttle cables because of a bar change.
