If I completely run out of gas and refill, will the bike continue to work as normal or will it throw up any error codes? | ||

It may run slightly poorly for the first few miles after refueling, but I don't believe it'll throw an error code. As the fuel finally runs out, the ECM will try to compensate for the lean mixture. After you refuel, the ECM needs to "re-learn" the correct fueling for the engine. You can speed this process up by cruising at a steady ~3000 RPM for a few minutes. | ||

If you run it completely out of gas, I'm pretty sure it won't run until you put more gas in it. | ||

Been there done that. Coasted into station and filled up. Turned the key on and off a couple of times so the electric fuel pump could fill up again. Fired right up and ran fine, don't worry about it. | ||

happened to me last week. no codes and it started right up I had a half gallon in the saddle bags ready to go, but I made it within 100 yards of the next gas station. 193 mi on the trip meter and 34 since the fuel light 4.3 gallons from empty to top off. if you don't know your limits; find them before they find you | ||

I had this happen far too many times and when it happens, your left with two choices. Whether to walk or start pushing. Once you get gassed up again, just start up and start riding again! | ||

I ran mine to 238 miles on one tank, then pushed it one small city block to a gas station. 4.4 gallons filled it, turned on the key, hit the start button, and rode another 40,000 miles so far. Many times I have filled it up to take 4.2+ gallons. Sometimes I run it a little thin I guess.  | ||

The one and only time I ran out of gas was in NE Iowa. Fortunately I was able to coast down a long hill and into a wood stave manufacturing plant. The owner of the place and a maintenance guy (who happened to like bikes) were there and they gave me a gallon of gas to get to the nearest station. I tried to pay them but they insisted that they would not take any money and sent me on my way, said they were always glad to help others. Very nice people. Kind of helps restore faith in humanity. Afterwards, I was thinking about the fact that I coasted a ways with the engine off and hoped I did not do any damage. I know on the Hondas I used to own, it was not a good idea to coast with the engine off. On my CB400F, the countershaft bearing was pressure lubricated and would eventually run dry if the engine was off. Unfortunately, I proved that one time after coasting several miles down a long hill with the engine off. It was great fun at the time until I had to tear the transmission apart a couple months later to replace the shaft and bearing. The bearing had turned blue and was all scored from lack of oil. I'm thinking since the Buell does not have a pump in the transmission or primary, it does no harm to coast with the engine off. Your thoughts? | ||

I just bought a rotopax 1.75 gal that Ill be taking with me. I want see how many miles the bike will do now I replaced the o2 sensor. | ||

Just ran out of gas for the first time in a long time. I am not sure the tank was full at the last fueling since it has been a few weeks. It showed 194 miles on the odometer. I added an unmeasured but small amount of gas to get to a station and it took 3.94 US Gallons to fill. | ||

MB, when Froggy is on one of his hypermiling adventures, he takes full advantage of any coasting opportunities. Don't think he's had any ill effects from doing that. | ||

I learned how to rebuild a carburetor when I ran my father's car out of gas. A little sludge can collect on the bottom of gas tanks. This tends never to be a problem, unless you run out of gas. For this reason I would not purposely run a tank empty. Especially with fuel injection. | ||

Just replaced the fuel sensor for the low fuel light..... Now I have to push it so i know it works again..... Joy joy..... |
