ok men, i am a newb uly owner. 6k on 06 bike. it still has the stock dunlop 616 on her. she wears a brand new matching dunlop in rear. so far i havent been bothered with the road wonder i hear these tires can make- maybe i have suspension just right? again; im a newb and dont have a clue. the tire thread i found in here is from 2010 - maybe new options out there...... here is my question.... whats a great dual compound all season tire? i race mtb and compound is everything. i see the conti tires have black chili compound that i use on my mtb, but not dual. im looking at brands im familiar with from cycling. Maxxis, Continental, Kenda. the maxxis supermaxx looks good, but what do i know. most of the tires im gravitating to dont have proper speed/weight rating. should i care if tire is radial or bias? it was suggested that i try a michelin rp2. the tread kinda scares me. i live in the mohave desert, and sand/gravel lurks at every corner or depression in the road. i need suggestions and experiences from those who may have tried any of these tires. cheers and thank you in advance for you time and knowledge! | ||

HEYO!! i'd like to be the first to welcome Mr. Mann as a new Badwebber.. he has been a good acquaintance of mine for some time now. He is more knowledgeable than a wizard on most things pedal powered or VW motorvated, and has helped me in the past on numerous occasions. I feel i am partially responsible for steering him to the wonderful world of Buelling, and although i cant recommend tires for Ulys (since im a S1/XBR kinda guy) i have full faith that he is in good hands here to gain all the Uly knowledge he desires.. I'll be spooning on a Michelin 2CT or the like for my next set. even if you cant find them on sale, they still provide better mileage for the cost compared to others. | ||

My new set of Metzeler Tourance NEXT tires just showed up today. They will be replacing Michelin PR2s. I am very happy with the Michelins, got about 9000 miles out of the rear. Ive taken them down a few hundred miles of gravel roads and they work as well as you would expect. Never had any flats, something I was concerned with using them in gravel. I am concerned the Metzelers wont last as long, but only time will tell. | ||

I run the Bridgestone BT023 tires. I have ran then before on my ST1300 and buddy ran them on his FJR1300. We have done multiple Texas to Colorado runs from the flats to the mountains and back. 104 to 24, rain and to sleet, asphalt to gravel. No issues here. | ||

I like the Dunlop D616 but my last tire change I didn't have time to wait on ordering them so I put the Dunlop Road smarts on and they handle well. I never really did any off road riding so maybe I'll be able to get over the 10,000 mile range I was getting out of my D616's. | ||

I put a set of the Metzeler Tourance Next on, about 1000 miles ago. I chose them because of the dual compound. Thread here- http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/711018.html?1374008829 I'm very happy with them so far, no issues with grip, cornering, wear, mild dirt work. I haven't been caught in the rain yet, but I'll post it the thread when I do. | ||

Got mine mounted this morning. If these will last like the Michelin Pilot Roads, I think they will be a great choice for the Uly. Only have 40 miles on them so far but leaving for a trip to Seattle in a couple weeks.   | ||

thanks for all the replies and the links. i wish i could have found the more current thread first. that Metzeler looks like it has just enough tread cut into it. i do need a spare belt badly. |
