» Strange sound coming from transmission

When my 2001 buell blast is running, there is a "whirring" kind of sound coming from the transmission case, best I can tell. It sounds the same in neutral, idling, and in all gears. Any ideas what this could mean?

Primary chain adjuster is loose or being shredded.
