Found this on craigslist. my buddy contacted him and the guy said he would take $600. We are not sure on how the motor "died" tho. what do you guys think? Think its worth getting into it?Besides the headlight i kinda like how it looks. http://newyork.craigslist.org/que/mcy/3935950027.h tml |

Wow. That is a fabulously ugly bike. If he had all the original stuff, it would be a killer of a deal. "Engine died" is pretty vague. If the cases are intact, I would think it's still a good deal. |

ok so the guy said that when he took it out of storage from the winter it started up and he rode it for about an hour and the bike died on him and wouldnt start. then he let it sit for a little bit and it started up again and an for about another 20 min and then died again. thats where he left it. do any of you buell experts have any insight as to what it could be? might be looking at it tommorow with my buddy so i would like to see if it will be a nightmare of a fix or not. thanks again. any input is appreciated. my friend said it sounds like its an overheating issue but since its an air cooled bike that cant be it right? |

Might just be a carb problem. The fact that it runs at all is a good sign. I kind of like the blacked out look. You know, except for the non blacked out (read orange) parts. |

I'd buy it. Looks like an easy enough resurrection. If the motor still turns...its worth it. Hell...could just be a bad tank vent! |

Its priced right for a bike somebody mostly ruined. Provided the engine problems don't sound crunchy, it is probably a good deal. It should sound just like an X1, but with less fuel pump whining. |

Either way, I think it's a good candidate for a save. Especially if you live close to where it is at... |

yeah i live just under an hour away. going to look at it/ get it tomorrow. either way if it is a catastrophic engine failure that is unseen im pretty sure i can part it out for atleast what i have into it. |

It isn't a catastrophic engine failure from the scenario. If the engine turns and doesn't make any unexpected noises - it can be saved easily. It's likely either fuel or electric - and yes, a badly ventilated tank would cause that symptom described, as would something worn out in the ignition - maybe module or coil overheating. Or a mostly broke primary wire to the coil. Because I was corrupted by British bikes at a young age, I really believe if it was running, then suddenly won't - the problem is always electrical in nature. That belief never has failed me either. Good news - electrical troubleshooting is a straightforward process of elimination. Start at the ignition switch and work your way down to the plugs and you'll clear the issue every time. thanks guys. We are going to pick up the bike today. And yes, apparently the guy does still have all the stock parts. I thought it was a good deal as well. Will keep you updated as to the diagnosing and symptoms we find. In the mean time, please keep posting possible issues that could be causing this. you guys are a great help. it will help us with what diagnosing direction we go in. |

Yeah, at $600 I'd buy it sight unseen, especially if it cranked. Glad you ran across it, good find and good luck! |

I think you are right about the sub frame. I noticed it as well. It definitely looks cut and re welded about 5" from the end. Also. We found something weird in the tank hopefully you guys would know. It's a little widget type thing like something you would find in a Guinness bottle lol. I will try and post a pic. |
