Hi all,

Need to replace the 2 "sidestand bracket fasteners." The bolts that hold the sidestand.

Can anybody tell me what the specs are?
Length, diameter, theading, grade?

I don't have specs handy, but I wouldn't use anything less than grade 8. I believe factory changed the part number at least once; the early 2006 Uly's used to snap these bolts off occasionally and that seems much less common since the first few months Ulys were sold.

Note that you do have to drop the muffler to access them, which means you'll also need to get a new front band clamp for the muffler as that's a one-use item.

It's the same bolt that holds the shifter and brake pedal, as well as the engine stabilizer heim joints. It's a flange head 5/16-18 x 1.25" long grade 8 bolt with dry thread locker.

There is more to it.
The fit between the bracket and the engine case is critical. Please see my previous responses to posts on this subject.

Changed the bolts last night.

First step lift the bike so you can work comfortably.

The problem with dry locking compound is; it (the locking compound) has a shelf life.
Though Buell never admitted that was the problem. That is what I believe, caused the side stand recall, for the attachment bolts.
Well, that, and the pivot bolt design, but that's another story.

Bolts used with the expired locking compound might not torque properly. The the torque spec. is reached, but the bolt is under-tensioned.
That is, the clamping force is insufficient to keep the side stand bracket secured to the engine case.

Eventually the bolts fatigue fail and viola!
Uly down!
Hopefully not on you, another person or worse another person's bike.
