My wife's XT runs pretty hot and I am looking into the remedies for that. Comfort Kit is obvioiusly one but I saw there are also just the right side air scoops available. Would the scoop alone make much difference or I am better of buying the whole kit? Is installation of the Comfort Kit very involved? It does mention a brace for the fan and the fan is pretty deep in there so I was hoping it doesn't require turning the engine or anything labor involved like that. Thanks! | ||

It's not that bad. The additional shroud for the top of the shock is the hardest part. I was able to flex it enough to put it in without tearing out too much. Made a huge difference on my X. | ||

I put the comfort kit on my '06 after trying different home remedies. The kit works quite well. Do not remove the lower ECM bracket screw, you don't even have to loosen it. The bracket will move far enough with the one screw out. The most difficult thing is the upper shock cover. If done on a hot day it can flex enough to pop in without removing the tail section or under pan. The big deal is getting the shock fluid hose in the right slot. | ||

Get the whole kit, but know this: even with the comfort kit, riding in high ambient temperature, the frame will get hot enough to burn the inside of the rider's legs. I've had a comfort kit on my '06 Uly since they were first available; the frame still gets unbearably hot in the summer months. I found that wearing riding leathers works best for me. | ||

Get the whole kit as mentioned. It really keeps the seat and everything under it a lot cooler. Since the battery is under there a little less heat would be a good thing! | ||

I've never been "burned" by my frame. Even when wearing mesh/armor joe rocket pants over my work khakis. That includes riding in triple-digit ambient temps, before and after installing the kit. Yes, the whole kit makes a big difference. Definitely worth the investment. | ||

I find on my 06 with the comfort kit, if I sit on the forward part of the seat the frame get's uncomfortably hot if I sit at the back I don't even notice because I have open space between the frame and my legs. A lot depends on your inseam, tall or low seat. I ride with the low seat. Its going to be in the mid 90's today so I took my Guzzi Breva 750 to work .no heat problem! | ||

Sorry to butt in, but once you install the comfort kit, how critical is it to re-flash the ECM w/ comfort kit logic ? I mean, is the fan connected to the temp sensors ? if so, it would only come on if the rear cylinder were to be at a higher temperature despite the better airflow after the kit ? So leave it be w/o re-flash ? P.S- I am planning to buy a kit myself. Cheers... | ||

Petro_freak, the reflash is not compatible with your 06, so it doesn't matter anyway. It works fine with the stock programming.
The only temperature sensors on the bike are for the rear cylinder, and air intake. The sensors are connected to the ECM, which adjusts fuel, ignition and fan operation depending on how cold or hot the motor is.
With the kit, the fan will take a little longer to come on due to the increase in cooling of the rear head, but it will still kick in like normal when it gets up to temperature. It will likely run the fan less or not at all after key off due to being less likely to reach the fan on threshold temperatures. If your bike was an 08+, I would recommend getting the reflash or the Race ECM with the newer programming, not just for the different fan operation but for other tweaks in the fueling and other behaviors. | ||

The comfort kit is just that. For comfort. It stops a lot of the air from the fan blowing under the seat and around the knees. It works good but it works MUCH BETTER in conjunction with the new fan logic. I have just been out in 32c/90f weather and I am only now noticing the heat from the bike. From this point on the heat from the weather itself is the problem. The bike is fine. | ||

I've never thought to check my oil cooler...bike runs fine, no ping, no skip (NEVER had it skip-spark...EVER), no warning lights. The oil cooler probably gets hot, since it's basically a radiator for your engine oil. | ||

And the engine run like a small "Atomic pile" all the time. I had no running issues with the 06 bike as far as heat was concerned but I think it would have run cooler if the oil cooler had worked right ie less fan run time, etc. | ||

I copied this over from another post I replied to earlier. Too lazy to re-type all of this.  I installed the complete comfort kit (except for the exhaust pipe shield), Odies heat blanket (front part only) and EBR ECM with the new fan logic (fan only runs above 15 MPH) on my 08 XT. The heat is no longer an issue at all. I swear I could ride this thing all day long in shorts (not a good idea), even on the hottest days in Minnesota. | ||

While, in the past, I made a point of saying how stupid I thought the new fan logic was it is in fact a very clever idea and works real well on these bikes. I was wrong and that is a fact. All I will say is? If you have a post 06 bike get the ECM fan logic done and if it is a 06 bike try and fit some sort of fan "over ride" to make the fan run while on the move. The core problem is to keep the rear cylinder at a good temp which is what either of these things do. | ||

My fan runs on the move. 06, comfort kit, EBR computer. I'm going out to put tape on my gauges now - "oil cooler" - so I remember to check it when I finish my ride home from work in 100+ ambient temps today. | ||

Yep. Hotter than the sun itself today riding home. Fan ran while riding, went to low speed about 30 seconds after key-off, ran on low for a few minutes like normal. Oil cooler too hot to touch. No ping. No skip-spark. No hesitation. No complaints  |
