Put the NHRS 1250 kit on the M2.. have put on 400 out of the 500 miles on the break-in..And before I forget to mention it.. every once in awhile the tach has been jumping.. especially when the bike is hot.. but while it jumps the bike runs smooth...

Rode the bike today after letting it sit for a few days.. I have diagnosed that my stator is out FYI and have been leaving the m2 on a trickle charger when not riding it.. I got the stator in the mail today but yesterday I took it for a short ride.. got about a mile and a half and it stalled out on me at a stop sign...

would not start for anything.. plenty of cranking power..

left it on the road and walked home.. got the pickup and went back for it.. before I loaded it in the truck I hit the button and it jumped to life.. and rode for about 20 feet.. carb has been recently cleaned and has given me no indications of having a problem..

could this all be stator related?? My next guess was the coil.. most likely will replace plugs and wires before coil.. any easy way to test coil? Or should I just replace stator and see if symptoms change.. (main reluctance to replace stator now while bike is not running is the fact that I have a very small limited garage and my cousin runs his own shop with a full set of tools and a motorcycle lift.. across town.. so i was hoping to get it running and ride it straight there.. I could load it in the truck...)

Sorry for rambling so much.. looking for advice from someone wiser than I....

Your issue is definitely electrical. The stator can't starve the module unless it is shorted to ground and has also ruined the voltage regulator.

I see the key in your tachometer symptom. Something is triggering extra pulses of the coils. Either your module or battery is no longer properly grounded, your coil is defective, or your module or cam position sensor is cracked or otherwise damaged.

Got a XL coil handy? Swap it in. If the stator is shorted to ground (ohm meter from stator wire to frame) leave it unplugged for the ride to your cousin's shop. Pull your headlamp fuse if the local police don't mind.

Remember when you go to install that stator - drive sprocket right hand thread, clutch hub retaining nut left hand thread.

Thank you for the tips and leads.. I will start running em down and see what the deal is..

"Remember when you go to install that stator - drive sprocket right hand thread, clutch hub retaining nut left hand thread."

This piece of advice is greatly appreciated!! I would never have snapped to that.. I would have been torquing the heck out of it..

I have been talking with my father and grandfather (dad is a buell guy with an S3T and grand dad is a harley guy with an XL1200) and they are leaning towards a cam position sensor. But I will be thorough and check all paths before fixing my mind on one.. Now of to the internet to price a coil.
