Hello, My stepson bought a 2007 Blast, and is having trouble with hard shifting. He has to stomp on the shift lever a bit to go from neutral to first (or there is some grinding), and the shifts up are a little hard as well. I adjusted the clutch cable but it is still happening. I am new to Buell, so I was interested in getting some input as to causes of the hard shifting as well as possible solutions. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks |

Clutch AND/OR primary chain not adjusted correctly !!! If this does not correct this problem you need to check the SHIFTER SHAFT ASSEMBLY ALIGNMENT !!! Get a FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL and PARTS BOOK for your YEAR/MODEL BLAST, learn to be your own "MECHANIC" ... |

The clutch adjustment ( under the primary cover ) must be done before the cable adjustment. After that the idle speed needs to be correct. During the cold high speed idle it will shift hard and crunch into first. This is all avoidable after adjustment and with practice. But remember, it's not a Japanese motorcycle that shifts real easy and stomping it into gear will cause damage. What you are experiencing is EXTREMELY common with new Blast owners :-( It is avoidable though. And Welcome! |

PS it does take a firm shift, but not a stomp! |

Yes. You should also do the primary chain adjustment too. I don't know if the BC site also has the chain adjustment. If you do find it anywhere please post a link so I can verify that it is the correct way (whether its BC or instructions here). |

Well, I did the clutch adjustment, then adjusted the clutch cable. Changed the fluid in the case, changed the oil and spark plug... And it runs like a new bike!!!! Smooth shifting, quiet shifts...Awesome!!! Thanks for all the input. I am sure this is not the last you will hear from me. I will be back checking things out and asking questions. |
