Trying to do a tps reset and the voltage won't drop to zero. I've tried dialing up, it will go up, won't drop lower than .62. Started with .85 volts, throttle percentage showed 6.4%. Percentage and voltage increase as I roll on the throttle but there is some juice no matter how low I dial down the cable (3/16th allen). Does this mean I'm shorting to ground or is there voltage trickling in from... somewhere? |

There should always be some voltage, that way the system knows that it didn't just hit the end of electrical travel. It should also never go all the way to the reference voltage so that once again it isn't at end of travel. Pretty sure we are dealing with around a five volt spread, should go down around 1/4 volt up to a little over 4.5 volts if my memory is correct. |

Thanks Greg, that answers some of my other questions regarding the voltage, but I swear I've gotten it to show a zero point when doing previous tps resets after engine work. To set up the tps BuellXB.com says to dial it (voltage) all the way back past zero, reset, then for start up set the tps to 5.5% open, which would have some associated voltage reading... When I cleaned the throttle valve the tps went to 1.0 and failed to respond to throttle input. I pulled the tps and inspected it, it looked fine, plugged it back in out of the bike and got a base voltage of .52-.53. Plugging in a used ford tps (same plug) showed same voltage, though zero voltage when the tps was unplugged. I have no idea if the used tps I tried was bad or not. It wouldn't fit the bike but it was an interesting thing to try. |

OK, there may be some confusion going on. There should always be some small amount of voltage on the sensor output. What you are doing when your reset the TPS is telling the computer what the minimum voltage should be for a completely closed throttle, it then sets this to zero percent and you crank it back open to around 5% for correct idle (pre-ddfi3). What that minimum voltage actually measures is the reason we have to reset it and it obviously varies which each TPS. If you didn't get a zero percent, ten you either didn't reset it, or you have some other kind of problem. |
