my message to the seller; "that frame is cut, that bike is completely unsafe to ride for any distance!! it is very immoral to not disclose this fact in the description of this bike, in bold red letters at that. this should be scrapped!! ebay will be notified that this is a completely unsafe disaster of a motorcycle. and you claim to be a service manager?? you should be ashamed of this work!!" |

Wait! I just realized how much faster belt changes would be with this modification! Someone should write it up for the Knowledge Vault |

Writeup's easy: 1. figure out where frame is inconvenient. 2. get cutting torch. 3. hack frame in offending area. 4. toss removed piece. Done |

Call him up and give him hell. At the bottom of his eBay ad: Deposit will be refunded if you arrive and do not agree with my description of this wonderful machine! Please note my feedback. If you have questions I can be reached at 321-213-5810. Mike |

This is awesome and all the time he thinks it is sold. I'm the highest bidder with no intentions of paying lol... I've used this technique a few times getting rid of junk on ebay, The best way to get them involved is if you have a pending transaction... |

I was wondering since I have nerve issues in my leg I bet this guy could modify the frame with a slot through the center so I can get on it like a girls bike? |

LOL.... Just looking at it, anyone with ANY sense in the world would know thats not a smart idea |

Yup, I got the same message. We know that it's BS but, if that's what he's going to claim, he'd better have that in writing, with detailed instructions from the manufacturer. If not, his ass is out a mile.
quote:On a related note, I seem to remember the 4 speed Westwinds had an offending tube that prevented primary cover removal - and IIRC, I have seen at least one with a similar cut frame for that reason.
Yup, I passed up a gorgeous 4 speed Westwind in Topeka Kansas 2 years ago because that exact thing had been done. At least they ran another tube up and around it. It was a stupid mod that was well executed. It was so good that the Harley dealer swore it was like that from the factory. I passed on it because of that single thing. I could have fixed it (per the methods mentioned here) but, didn't want to deal with it. |

As it says on the Chin Fairing "We don't care how they do it in Japan" or I guess anywhere else . |

He added one of the many questions he got on the matter to the listing at the bottom, claiming that cutting the frame was done because he was following the installation instructions for the exhaust. I'm going to just call bullshit on that right now. I don't even need to check with Kooks...Kooks has been around performance for a long time, any designer who came up with an exhaust design that would require a frame mod of that significance would get punched squarely in the stones by product management. The product would never see light of day. I would not be surprised if the change out to chain drive and idler was necessitated because the bike will not hold onto a belt after the modification. Torque would draw that pivot towards the engine - the swingarm and frame would basically flex like a book being closed. That would move the pulleys closer together and therefore cause belt tension problems. Bonehead probably thought he was throwing belts because of all the power from his bolt on mods. |

Service Mangler not Manager! I'm surprised he didn't cut the same amount from the other side to balance the bike! |

Here is a message from him on Ebay. "Listing has been updated and not asking anyone to certify anything. Glad to give the ladies on the forums something to chat about though." I would rather be a lady then a two bit hack! |

Lynrd is correct about the weldments and how to correctly fix it. Regarding this ass hat and his personal responses, he and his brilliant tech were probably cursing Erik and his elves for being so dim-witted to interfere with header fitment. Does anyone really wonder why Buell sales never really took off! There has to be a way, even with his after-the-fact disclosure, to shut this sale down. Could someone at EBR drop a dime on this guy? Somebody could die from this "mod"! |

No, I dont see how anyone at EBR could stop the sale. And is that really what you want them doing? Taking time away from building bikes/company to tattletale on an ebay guy? I find it funny that he says you have to cut the frame for the exhaust fitment lol Im wondering if he didnt get an exhaust for a different model/frame and was too lazy to buy the right stuff |

I texted him and asked about cut frame, he said yes, cut to fit the exhaust per instructions i said that he should be mentioning that in the ad (yesterday) and how it was dangerous today he texted me stating it was only dangerous if jumping buses or something wow. |

Hybrid, Glad to hear you are making a stink to the seller. As EBR, the company now, did not build it, I would not think they would get involved. Just a thought at the time. If I were the engineer who designed/built those bikes, back in the day, if I saw anything that I designed/built "modified" with the potential of death for the new owner, I'd be concerned. Hopefully, there won't be a sale. Hopefully the bike frame will be scrapped or fixed properly. But, that's a lot to hope for! |

i got a reply that he updated the listing; " Please note that the frame has had a section removed at the right side for fitment of the custom exhaust. If this is a concern to you please do not bid. Rides and drives as new. " |

I cannot believe that in the US one would have to resort to such stupidity! A small change in the upper and lower bends on that pipe would have had it fitting without grief! Guess you guys don't have auto exhaust fitment shops there ! |

Hey Lynrd: On the drive belt thing, I believe that the engine mount block bolts to the engine and the frame flex will not have any effect on the rear drive alignment ( the arm attaches to the motor mount ). On the tube repair how would you as a builder repair a small slot worn in a frame tube in that position, ( my bike has a hole worn thru the tubing where the ebay frame was hacked ) the slot is about 1/4" wide and 5/8" long, I have a pic some where, I discovered it when rebuilding the top end. |
