Hey guys I am new around these parts but hopefully not for long. I have always been a Kawi kinda guy and never showed much interest in these bikes. With that said I went out and bought a lightning X1 with the intentions of selling it but it did not take long before I realized I had already sold my baby ninja 750 and started to throw some money in this... I have a few things I need to buy and work out on it but mostly minor stuff... Mainly the exhaust it has a few cracks and its making the bike run horrible other than that I have been remodeling the front end let me know what you think.. I will be painting it and also the headlight cover and installing the fenders... Well its just my luck my old lady deleted my pics of her so Ill take some more in the am... |

I'm an old guy and I'm here to help Take that for what it is worth, cause there are plenty of old guys in gov't and you know you're screwed if they take an interest in you! We are the best Buell community you will encounter. We answer your questions. We tell you when we think you are going in the wrong direction. We are, like you I assume, hard working men and women that love Buell's. And we like to mod them too. Welcome, you are in good company here |

You'll be wanting a factory service manual, a parts book if you can find one (illustrations are priceless for assembly order), and a cable and the ECMSpy program so you can fool around with your settings. Your bike is early; you can use the old free program. Unless you can afford the new EBR module. Welcome again. |

Purpony That they do. Thanks guys for the warm welcome. Here she is I found a few pics of her lying around... Question I am experiencing what feels like a flat spot in my neck bearings and I am wondering if this is an issue or part of the package. It almost seems to dead on to be a fault but I thought I would ask because it makes cornering a little squirrel'y.

Not normal but a relatively easy fix. Neck and swing arm take the same bearings and races but the swing arm also uses seals. These can be had for less than ten bucks each for a bearing and race if you shop right. I just re did a 99X1 top to bottom and all points in between. Check out photo bucket or something like it for better picture quality. Mark |

alfou you're not kiddin this thing is a wheelie machine. Thanks Arizona I will be fixing them real soon as I believe they might be the reason for the front tire to be a bit wobbly.. has anyone felt the need to install a steering damper I guess I can ride it for a bit with new bearings and see how she feels... My first fix is going to be the exhaust I need to find the full system or at least the headers |

Red tail looks great with the blue frame, nice find! Loose the hokey exhaust for a factory or similar pipe and you'll see improvements in power and fuel mileage. These bikes need a little back pressure, open pipes loose power and what yours came with is definitely fashion over function. Welcome to Badweb |

Congrats on your find it looks like it can be put into good shape with some bolt ons. }Unless you can afford the new EBR module. AFAIK there are NO EBR parts to be had, the ecm fits XB bikes which are not the same.... any of our sponsors, can help you, AMERICAN SPORT BIKE is the best known and has top flight service, call AL and you can have most any thing in a few days, welcome to the madness, owning and riding a Buell is "different in every sense" After perusing your photo bucket account I get the idea that spinning wrenches is part of your recreation, so good luck and have fun..... |

Ill have to look the part numbers up when i get home but the neck and swingarm bearings are standard bearings common in trailers... I got my Timken trailer wheel bearing at the local parts store for cheap. I also use the removal tool from the link above (Georges garage) and it works great. I didnt buy the handle/driver though.... i just took a piece of round stock i had and drilled and tapped a hole in the end of it for what i believe was a 1/2. Screwed a 1/2 bolt in the end and cut the head off... works perfect. |

Thanks guys I expect a long happy road ahead with her... My wife really enjoys riding with me and I really enjoy the perfectly lowered ride height from her 110lb tush. Thanks Kc zombie I will be downloading it tonight. For anyone who saw my pb account that is my brothers friend he really wants to learn this stuff so i let him tinker with me sometimes. Just to get his hands real dirty I let him do the most of the thinking when we swapped that 250 to a new frame... |

I feel ya been on a few forums and if you ask for opinions you get opinions the key is to be ok with the vast difference in opinions and at the end of the day all that matters is if you're having fun or not... I've loved motorcycles since I was a kid but my father said drive for a while and you'll see why it scares the piss out of me the thought of you riding around town. Now I have a son and he sees daddy and papa riding around on these loud two legged machines and I think he has the itch too... These things are freakin sweet... |

Paul, Welcome, I saw your bike right after you purchased it, good luck with getting her into shape. Be weary of the local HD dealers for parts & support. You can rely on the members & vendors here for the correct info... |
