Has anyone used the Motorcycle Innovation's Bad Boy Oil Cooler? Is it worth the $459? I'll admit that the round canister looking cooler looks great, but it seems pretty expensive? Do they work? |

That's crazy expensive. Does it have a thermostatic bypass? Cold oil = watery oil. Personally, I wouldn't bother but you're in Texas and I'm in the Democratic People's Republic of Massachusetts.

"Cold oil = watery oil." Hmmm. I would have thought the opposite. But aside from that, what makes the OP think he needs such a drastic measure to to "cool" the oil? What temperature is your oil at hot idle? |

He literally meant, "water in the oil." If the oil doesn't get above 212F, moisture will collect in it. I doubt it would run THAT cold. It would have to be one efficient cooler for that. |

I live in Austin, Texas where we have on average 30 plus days of 100 degree temperatures. I have engine mods, header and drive in traffic, why wouldn't I want an oil cooler? Not sure that's really "a drastic measure" but thanks for the input. |

I could make a lot of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for $459, so I would look for an alternative if I needed extra cooling options. Do you run a longer HD Dyna filter to increase total capacity and cycle time a bit? The stock Buell XB oil cooler is a lot less than that and has a nice little scoop to route air into it. Lines and fittings shouldn't be too much. The hard part about using this (Buell) part is making up a mounting bracket, but it has been done and documented in the knowledge vault. |

Damn! I forgot how much that was worth. I would have taken it off before selling my last X1, LOL. Glad I had it when doing a track day in Florida. Wish I had checked the oil temp numbers so I can report on it, but I bought the X1 with it on and it was a piece I never had to mess with. No leaks and looked good.

Looks like you could slip that thing in your riding pants to keep warm in the winter |

Sometimes bikes with oil coolers have trouble getting up to temperature in the colder months of the year. Synthetic oil is apparently better suited to high temperature running. AMSOIL was the flavour of the month for a while there with them sponsoring EBR and all. Anyone use AMSOIL ? (Message edited by alfau on June 18, 2013) |

My S1 wore a Jagg till the XB conversion. The extra fin area on the XB cyls and heads make a BIG difference. Made the oil cooler a moot point. |

What temperature is considered "hot"? The highest I've seen my engine temp get is ~170C and that was during a 100F day stuck in slow traffic measured directly using a temp gun pointed at the ETS. |

As long as you run a thermostat on the cooler, you won't have an issue with your oil not getting up to temp. |

I like the way the oil cooler looks on my S3.
