After fitting head wrap and then spraying the hi temp spray it seems like my leg is more hotter than it was before adding the wrap. I'm not sure if it takes a certain amount of miles to break in but i've done around 50 so far and no change.

I'd suggest ditching it and having the header ceramic coated instead.

Did you put the heat shield back on? I heard from a few people that with the wrap, the shield acts as a heatsink and put off a lot of heat. I run mine wrapped w/o the sink.

Just adding heat shielding doesn't reduce the heat. It just means the heat has to escape somewhere else.

If ther heat cnnot escape then of course the wrap/heat shield will just act as a heat sink so you will actually feel more heat not less.

At the end of the day the bike is an aircooled lump housed in a frame that does not allow it to cool properly without the aid of a fan. That means we need to put up with a lot more heat than you will get on a water cooled or even another air cooled bike with a different frame design.

Better to add a right side air scoop and try to cool it better rather than try to stop the heat in the first place (which you cannot do).

Its an 08 so it has the right side scoop. Yes I put the heat shield back on the bike. I will take it off and try it without.

How long does exhaust wrap last before it deteriorates?

How long does exhaust wrap last before it deteriorates?

Partly depends on how well it was put on, whether you used the protective spray that is 'supposed' to protect it from the weatehr etc, if you used white or black tape and lastly on conditions where you ride.

I've seen some exhaust wrap look very second hand in a short time used in wet/winter conditions without protectove spray cover.

It was never designed to look good though. It was designed to help raise exhaust temperature, increase exhaust gas speed which in turn theoretically produces more power. The gains are almost too small to measure so it isn't worth doing as a performance mod.

I wrapped my XB12 race bike headers simply to prevent them melting the glassfibre race fairing!

Heat is to a Buell (XB) as the bay (voice) is to a bloodhound.

Can't have one without the other...

If you go with the titanium header wrap, it will look nice and new for quite a while if not it's whole life span.

Adding the wrap helped but Teeps and Trojan are right, it's the nature of the beast.

It may be just me but I find the bike runs cooler once it is WELL run in, say 8k miles, and the comfort kit and new fan logic works as it drives air over the engine as needed. I also find a freer flowing can gets the exhaust gases away better. It is also lighter with much less metal to absorb the heat.

My 06 bike was a lot better after doing this but you will still get a hot pipe. It is the nature of the bike.

The heat shield works well enough but you could have a longer "double layer" one made for very little money if you wanted.

Ceramic coating the pipe is the same idea as wrapping it but costs more. If you do this make sure it is the EXTRA thick coating.

I see no reason why not but remember on a 06 bike you are getting a hell of a lot of heat from the engine as well so it depends on what you are trying to do as far as the heat problem goes.
