1 week left before GS Challenge, and its still raining!

Getting a little nervous, we've had rain basically everyday for the last 3 weeks except for the occasional sunny day here and there. Announcing more rain this week again!

There's going to be /b{tons! of water and mud.}
Usually not that big of an issue but when your trying to win a race.... mistakes happen.

Judging from last year, I am faster down the trails than most, but absolute rubbish in the sand. Maybe wet sand could play to my advantage here.

Thing is Mud is the great equaliser. you can blast down the trails as fast as you want but everybody meets up at the mud pit.

once you are in the mud, it comes down to three factors... inertia, weight and tires. Not much you can do about weight.

Don't hurt yourself. Heavy bikes in the mud are a recipe for torn tendons. DAMHIK.

If you get into deep mud try an old trials riding trick. Put your feet on the passenger pegs, lean as far back as you can and start jumping up and down. On the down stroke you should get some traction, on the up stroke you should clear your knobbies. I thought I was toast on a steep muddy uphill climb. Tire was just spinning and I was slowing fast. Started jumping up and down and I started speeding up again. Made the hill!
It helps to set up the rear suspension loose, almost to a pogo stick setting.

Good luck Matt.
I'd rather ride wet sand than dry.

Thanks for the advise guys. I'll keep it in mind.

Oh and guess what the weather is like... again... yup rain again.

Oh BTW, yesterday at lunch i practiced driving into and out of the ditch by the highway offramp near my workplace. Was doing pretty good, driving in and out about hald a dozen times. Then, oops... fell in the ditch.

something like 3 or 4 cars pulled over to see if I was ok. yup i'm fine

Nice to see people looking out for each other though. 1 guy even helped me lift the bike.

Oh but the look on one of the other guys face was priceless.... He was the last guy there (so i don't think he saw me going in) I could tell he was trying to piece together how the hell do you drive off the highway and into a ditch on a motorcycle... and not have a scratch???

Yup the sand is a. Lot more forgiving right after a rain but around here it dries up fast 1 hour window and it goes back pretty much to its same ole self.I love sand
