I performed a search, the service manual isn't clear and I'm getting old, going senile. I can't remember for the life of me, does the clutch assembly need pulled when doing the shifter adjustment with the drill bit? |

Yes, I believe that is the only way to access where you need to insert the drill bit. I've been told by knowledgeable members that you should use a 0.125" drill bit instead of the recommended 0.116". |

That's what I thought, but it wasn't computing. Thanks for the heads up about the drill bit size. |

Used a .116 for mine, I can see how a little more meat on the bit would make for a little less fiddling though. Either way, if it's been out of adjustment you'll be pleased with fixing it. It has made a big difference in shift effort and accuracy for my bike. |

Excuse my ignorance but could you guys go more in-depth about what you are talking about? I'm new to tubers and i think my bikes clutch needs adjusting because it lets out way too soon and i'm wondering if what you guys are discussing might be the solution. I've adjusted the clutch cable and where the manual says to behind the derby cover with no satisfactory result. Sorry for the hijack. |

Shifter adjustment won't change when your clutch engages, it's for gear selection only. The clutch is fairly finicky, you have to take your time and don't snug things down too tight before you back off however much the book says. Make sure you've properly loosened the cable prior to the clutch adjustment or you're not going to get a good engagement point on the clutch. Lube your cable to make sure it moves freely and isn't hanging up as well. Also check to make sure the end isn't into the ramp backwards, it should be on the inside of the hook on the ramp, it will hang up on the derby cover if it's on wrong. |

No drilling.. Drill bits are used as a gauge for adjusting. |
