Helmet . . .. . it's all about two things . . . .DOT and Snell rates, and fit . . .just because I LOVE the way a helmet fits me doesn't mean it'll fit you nearly as well . . .. . a number of helmet makers include extra pieces of foam to insert (or remove) from various area to improve the fit, if your having trouble finding one that feels good . . . .. . racer status or not, good helmets are a must for all . .. . . . it's just as likely, I think, for a street rider to get off on his or her noggin as hard as a racer does . . . .skimpin on this purchase is not the right thing to do, I'm thinkin . . .there are way too many jerks on the road . . . . . it was nice to see how other chapters run their meetings . .. . I've been to three chapters now, and, although the core mission seems similar, they have very different "feels" to them |

CJ- I'll concur with Bomber....find one that is DOT and SNELL rated and that fits your head and is comfortable. Moat helmets come in basic colors if that's a concern, it's when you go to all the funky and "racer-boy" designs that the price goes up. There are a few places up here that I go to for goodies. One is in Waukesha called the Motorsports Factory and have always treated me well. If they don't have what you want they will order it for you. When they get it in, if you decide that you don't like it or don't want it, it is not a problem. When I was looking for some boots, they ordered like 6 pairs of boots for me. I only took home one pair. Don and Roy's on Bluemond has a decent selection, I would think that Sportland 2 down in Oak Creek would have a decent selection as well. I haven't been to any of those places in a while, so if you want a tag-a-long let me know. I could "use" a few things.

While we're on the subject of gear, got any good site/suggestions on where and what style of boots ya like? I mean riding boots for street/track, not a Harley type or work boot type. Joe Rocket, Icon, that style. I'd appreciate it. |

CJ, For a fairly wide selection of helmets head to the TorqueCenter on National. Get fit there. And keep your eyes open while there, that's where I saw my first ever in-person Blast, several weeks before any of the local dealerships had one. One never knows what lurks in the midst of the clothing racks sometimes. Now's a good time to be shoppin'. Old stuff getting cleared out, new stuff starting to arrive, transitioning out of the snow stuff, starting to transition into the sun stuff, between now and late March lots of boxes are gettin' opened in retail shops. ('scuse me now, got a "new and improved" monitor here at work and it has totally sucky resolution, can't tell the difference between donut crumbs and witch cooties on the screen.) |

'sprink, Check out Sidi On-Road Sympatex boots. Got mine on clearance a few years ago at the aforementioned shop. ps, I can't find "Hidden, WI" with Mapquest, so I have no idea how close you are to NewBerlin. |

Thats a good call Mike.CJ that way you can try on different brands and find out what feels good. Then go on line if you feel you can find it cheaper. If not you know where it is and go back and buy it. |

Hey mikej and bads1, I did exactly that this weekend !! I did go to Torgue center (although they still have a lot of snowmobile stuff and gear out instead of motorcycling) and a couple of other places !! Was actually going to a few more, but lunch at Chili's with two for one margarita's ended my shopping spree !! LOL I do know now that the helmut I think I want is the HJC CL14, was the most comfortable fit and I liked the lime green/black graphics on it !! So now I'm checking out the internet with an idea of what it costs now, and like you said either I get it cheaper on line or go back to one of the shops ! Thanks guys !! CJ |
