So I bought my Blast a couple of weeks ago, got my M class endorsement and put a few hundred miles on it. Last night I was coming down a long straight hill and thought I would try to hit top speed. I did. All of the 96mph the blast will do. Now here is my question. What can I do to make it do the ton? (100mph) |

lol - change the ignition to up the rpms from 6500 to 6800. Can't go higher without an upgrade of headgear. EZ |

No plug and play, but its not really that hard to hook a different ignition up. It just takes a little research in how ignitions work and the knowledge that Blasts and Sportsters share the same wiring colours. After that, what fits a Sportster will wire up to a Blast. But just about any ignition from about 1970-200? can be bolted and wired up. Within reason, any years close to the Blast production years will be the same (not exactly, but enough to make sense of it). You can change the primary gearing, will probably cost more than an ignition and without any engine upgrades, will just slow you down. |

Sure - your stock ignition is only going to allow it to get to 96 to maybe 99 - depending on how much power your pushing, due to rpm & gearing limits. Putting in an SE ignition, or other aftermarket that lets you raise the rpms, will also raise your top end. Thing is you can't go past 6800rpms with a stock head because the springs will float. So if you put in an aftermarket ignition, you'll want to upgrade the head as well to get get full benefits from the ignition mod. - that means stronger springs, and new guides and seals are recommended as well. The right headwork, cams, toss in a hi comp. piston and 8000rpm limit equals a world of fun!!! EZ |
