If I open my throttle, it sticks anywhere past 3/4 or so. I mean physically sticks whether engine is running or not. Where do I look for the problem? |

I have narrowed it down. It's actually in the throttlebody/ plate housing itself. I disconnected the throttle from the cables and they slide in the outer housing very easily. When I turn the throttle apparatus on the throttlebody itself it sticks at the three-quarter mark without the cables even connected to anything. |

Look for a damaged throttle shaft. They have been known to break. |

If it is the throttle shaft, a guy screen name: Tootal has made up some replacements. I'm sure if you message him, he can get one out to you. |

unless, maybe just maybe there is some varnish on the TB,causing it to stick. |

Look down into the throttle body. Do you see a break at one of the screws in the butterfly? If so PM me. (Message edited by tootal on May 12, 2013) |

I think I've actually fixed the problem. When I look down the throat of the throttlebody it appeared that the butterfly valve was slightly to one side of the throttlebody and it was rubbing on the side of the throat. I gave a little squirt with some lubricant but that didn't help. Then I loosened the nylon lined locknut that hold on the brass colored device that the cables connect to and wiggled it by hand a bunch of times. Free as a bird! I put the nut back on but didn't tighten it down supertight. Seems to be problem solved. The sad/stupid part is the throttle has stuck like this on the bike since the day I bought it and I just now got around to fixing it. Five years is better than nothing I suppose. Thanks for the input. |

Crempel, I'm not trying to be mean here or anything but there is still something wrong with it. You should be able to tighten that ny-lock nut to the proper torque and the throttle should open and close freely from idle to WOT. You might have moved it around a little and got it freed up for now but this is something that needs a professional to look at and fix for your safety and safety of others. Are you sure the back side (bottom side) of the throttle plate is not just all carboned up and black? Sometimes this happens on cars but usually the throttle plate sticks just coming off idle when that happens. Also, if that nut comes off from vibration (yes, these bikes vibrate) you will wish it had been fixed properly. You may still be having the dreaded and known throttle shaft issue on your 06. |

Crempel, it sounds like the butterfly is not centered properly. You might loosen the butterfly screws a little and then tighten the nylok nut. Now center the butterfly by moving the shaft back and forth then split the difference. It might be easier if you remove the cable cam and the spring then put the cam back on until it's centered then you can put it back together correctly. |

And do all this with the bike suspended upside down so when the screws come loose they don't fall into the intake. |

IIRC the screws on the OEM setup are chaffed backwards. If the holes on the shaft are OK, I don't think the screws will fall out. |

I'm glad you mentioned the screws holding the butterfly onto the shaft. I did loosen them and attempt to move the bfly over. Even though it didn't seem like anything happened I may have moved it an RCH which was enough. BTW, I did tighten the nylok nut onto the shaft, it's not just dangling there. I just didn't crank it down super tight. Before anyone mentions it, there is no way to get a torque wrench in there. Was pleased to find yet another area where the tool spec changed from SAE to metric. Honestly (bunny trail) that is my biggest annoyance about working on this bike is having to have both sets of tools out all the time and constantly jumping back and forth. UGH! OK, I feel better now. |
