Im wiring up turn signals on an S1W that I want to run as running lights as well. is there a good convenient point to pull switched dc power to power the third wire for running lights on turn signals? I don't want to splice into the stock harness, I would like to find a post to pull from. thanks!

Not sure about your S1 but there should be wire to your tail light that supports running lights with the lights on. On my X1 there are two wires power and a ground with plugs for the tail light.

Maybe the plug for the license plate light?

yeah thought of those, but I have cleaned up the wiring back there when I wired in the autodynamic L.E.D tail light....its too clean now to grab a point...but as a last resort, I can always go back to that source.

If you're going to run the stock turn signals as running lights, you will need to upgrade to LEDs or something.
Those stock bulbs permanently on will melt the housing.

Im running the Zepto L.E.D turn signals..they are very bright, very well made and they have multiple functions you can set on the running light so that you can get a pulsing running light to help folks see you better.

Kind of a forest for the trees thing on my part!!! Next opportunity I'll dig into what I did and pull the third wire out for running lights that will pulse..

Wait
get a hand full of small cheap 12v relays
tag light rear instrument lights front
when the relays are off ( no turn ) wire from NC to C for your hot line from the plate or cluster lights, use the blinker lines to operate the relay the running lights blink off
for turn operation....

Yeah. Oldog has it right.
Just invert the functioning of the lights.
You could use one relay just after the flasher.
The flasher would flash fast as indicating a bulb was out though.
you would have to either get the LED/now load flasher or modify the one you already have to ignore the reduced load.

Have a look at this:

The horn wires are only "on" when you press the horn button...and make the horn honk.

There should be a "position" light built into the headlight harness. It's a Euro feature, kinda like a parking light here in the states. If I remember correctly it is on when the key is in the "run" position.

Something fun just dawned on me.
The flasher already HAS a relay in it.
Can you rework PCBs?
You could just swap out a relay so that it's normally closed as mentioned above.

the zepto lights I bought have a small circuit board in series (see zepto thread), all it needs is switched dc power to one of the three wires to give it a running light function. it has black wire for ground, a red wire for bright for the flasher, those two go into the standard two wire turn signal set up, the third wire is "dim" and it is for a running light function, just need a place to pull switched dc power, hot off ignition, I don't need to re-work any relays, the circuit board has it all set up, just need a good place to cleanly draw 12 volts dc that is only hot when the key is on. there are some obvious places, but want to find a clean place that doesn't involve splicing into the wiring harness. would like to find a post to draw from.

You can get fuse-taps. They're designed so you pull out a fuse, slip this little "sock" on the battery side fuse post and re-insert the fuse. Now, sticking up next to that fuse, you have a female spade socket and you can plug into that.

Use a switched fuse, use the battery side of it (so your signals don't go out if the fuse pops), and you're good.

Try the local Napa they have the barrel connectors for the tag light, like Rat Said the marker light can be tapped into ( no cutting of the original ) just make up a link that catches the female disconnect, for the marker light. to your Zepto

I forgot that the Zepto lights had the features you wanted other wise.

good plan, thanks, didnt think of fuse taps. I had this single focus of finding the perfect open post to just through a wire on to capture so that I can keep the wiring as clean as possible, this would be a good 2nd plan and easily reverseable as well.

now I need to find the time to re-do the work, I'm very happy with the lights, they are bright, but I think the pulsing driving lights will be cool and help out here in the traffic I sometimes ride in...

next weekend I do the big bore build on my thruxton so its going to have to wait for its turn back "in the shop"....

IIRC there is an unused lead up by the headlight on an S1 that was for a euro spec running light. Check there first. It may be unused and perfect.

I could be wrong, it's been a while since I was in there.

thanks, Ill look, though I have had the head light off a few times in other projects and didn't see one, of course I wasn't specifically looking for it so it doesn't mean it wasn't there....
