howdy,, the x1 has been making a strange noise sounds like a scraping scrubing sound that appears to be coming from the front cyilinder. its progresivly getting worse but disappears under engine breaking. seems to be strong as ever on wot. noise isn't as noticeable when cold. reseated exhaust header flange, and looked for evidence of any type of a leak but none was found. reset afv on Thursday, its usually about 90 which is close to perfect for the altitude. today the noise is getting much worse, and I thought I would check afv and its at 76%. its having trouble idling, at the same setting as yesterday. any ideas what might be wrong? belt pushrod? piston skirt collapsed im gonna pull off the cam cover and have a look as the noise is deffinatly coming from that side. ive also replaced the primary chain shoe and adjusted freeplay, it sounds like that type of a scuffing. thx 99x1 |

Check your header for a crack near the join. Mine did that and my buddy TIGed it up for me. I don't know what effect the crack had on the fuel values but you could hear it certainly. |

Don't pull the cam cover without reading the manual.Bad things can happen if done incorrectly. |

check the condition of BOTH spark plugs at once, to assure that you don't have an air leak on the front cylinder as well.. 76 afv means that you are trying to lean out the mix, only the rear is measured, if the front is other wise ok you could be running it dangerously lean ...... |

The plugs were changed Saturday and looked ok but that was with a 90 afv. I'll have a look today at the plugs. |
