I have found the sprocket holder tool I need: HD 41321 but I have been told that it can not be sold to the public. Reason: "To make the HD Service Department essential to Harley ownership." Tomorrow I plan to contact the local dealer to confirm this. If it is true I will begin using aftermarket parts only on my Buell - nothing from the HD store unless absolutely necessary. Now, even if the above turns out to be true, there must be at least one good dealer that would sell the tool. If so that dealer would get all of my business in spite of their affiliation with the Mother Company. | ||

I just cut a piece of 1/8 inch flat stock that I got from Lowes, filed the edges, I believe I cut it a 4" even. Not sure what sprocket you are talking about, but hope this helps. | ||

Well, My local HD store sez: "The only one we have fits 29 tooth sprockets and up" (We did not even discuss whether or not it was for sale.) Kent Moore, the maker of special tools for HD sez: "Harley Davidson special tools are only available to dealers, not the general public." There are a few on Ebay made in China. PLAN B: Does anyone have a broken belt that I could use to make my own tool? Note to self; NEVER, NEVER, BUY A HARLEY DAVIDSON! | ||

I'm done with HD as well. I needed a new oil line and connector to fix an oil leak on my S1. Took almost 10 working days to get it in. So my bike sat in the garage for 2 weeks while it was beautiful out. I asked the desk guy where the part was coming from...a warehouse about 30 mins away!!!!! I would have went and picked up myself if I would have known that! | ||

There are some dealers that will sell you Kent Moore tools. You just have to find the right one. Interestingly, what I've found is that the ones that offer discounts (like Badweb sponsors, and other historic discount dealers) are usually the most likely to do so. I guess the ones that do realize they can only make so much on T-shirt sales... 1313 | ||

I would get a strap wrench from Harbor freight and replace the strap with a chunk of old belt so that way you can get some leverage. Totaly agree with how maddening "speciality" tools can be especially when its propriatary to boot. | ||

Well, I just found one on ebay and bought it. It seems that there are lots of the larger ones for big twin sprockets but the XL tool has been discontinued. (The one for big twins is now a screaming chicken part that sells for $106.00.) It doesn't seem right that the Mother Company sells lots on Sportsters but the tools are not available from them. When i worked at a Triumph/Norton shop in the 70s we sold any special tool the customers wanted to buy and they were not marked up a whole lot either. Anyway, problem solved. Thanks for the ideas and support. I love my Buells and I am glad to be part of our Buell community. | ||

After stumbling upon this post it only reaffirms my stance to never buy anything that puts money into the HD coffers. I love my Buells, but will go anywhere other than HD for any part or tool. In fact when HD killed Buell I never bought another quart of HD Synthetic oil. I went to Amsoil when they announced sponsorship of EBR Racing. I used to respect HD for the history and being American made. But the HD higher ups flushed that thinking for me. Good luck getting your tool. | ||

Update: The tool has arrived. It fits the sprocket nicely. Now waiting for the 1 7/8 impact socket I got on ebay. | ||
