I've been slowly going through a lot of fixes on this bike. It has always started a little hard, and sometimes runs a little funny when cruising, but now it won't go at all. The last time it ran I had started it up to show a friend. Started right up. We revved it a few times but it started raining so we killed it, covered it and rain inside. It rained super hard that night. The next day I replaced the shock which was blown, the only part of the running system I touched was the R/R which had to be unbolted. Tried to test ride it after the shock swap and it won't start. Starter turns, engine turns, but no bang. I might get one 'ka-chug'. Here's what I've tried: -Charged the battery. -Plugs look ok. Spare plug gives fat blue spark on both cylinders. -Thought the rain might have somehow gotten into the fuel/air system so I cleaned out the forcewinder, drained and replaced the fuel, and cleaned the injectors. That only leaves the fuel pump and filter untouched. -Shorted the clutch switch, I didn't find a sidestand switch. -Still won't start, plugs smell like gas when I check them and enough fuel moved through to give me a gunshot backfire in the can. So, fuel, spark but no running? I have a mac so ECM spy isn't an easy option. Please help before I roll this thing into a lake! |

The last time it ran I had started it up to show a friend. Big no no,start it and ride it. Fouled plugs most likely.} |

Yes, I hear the fuel pump. I primed it after doing all the fuel system stuff by keying on and off 3 times. Had a fast whirr when the system was still unpressurized then it got slower by the third time. Figured because it had to work a harder as the pressure built. I looked at the plugs and they were a little fouled consistent with failed starting. Cleaned them as best I could with a paper towel. |

Check your fuse box. Diagram all fuse/relay locations, then pull all of them and clean the contacts of each fuse/relay. Put a piece of electrical tape on the starter relay and swap that one with the other relay in the panel. Some times the relay isn't working because of poor connections at the fuse/relay box. Another way to clean the fuse/relay contacts is to pull them and re-install them several times in their respective locations. The back and forth in/out on the contact surface area cleans corrosion off by simple friction. Don't throw it in the lake. Throw one of these down your yap , then get to work on your bike |

Jramsey is the winner! I realized how stupid it was while typing it to have tried to clean the plugs with a paper towel. Hit each one with a wire brush and it started right up! My consolation prize is that cleaning the injectors fixed the rough running at 4kRPM. Now if I can only get the tranny vent to stop puking oil... (even after changing the crank seal). Thanks for the replies everyone! |

How do you have the tranny vent tube routed? If you don't have it up high, it will puke even with nothing wrong. I know this because I temporarily had mine rerouted into a can under the bike in order to get home without dieing. After the seal was replaced, my hose was still dribbling, just not as much. Rerouting it up in the tail again fixed it finally. |

It's under the tail. I need to double check to be sure I didn't overfill it but I thought I added it just to the bottom of the clutch basket. Adding a catch is next on the list because it started to get on the edge of the rear tire and that's a danger I can't live with! |
