Still trying to get the used CV carb to work on my S2. It starts well and runs fine but keeps flooding. I have taken it apart a number of times, replaced the float valve. Set the float level, checked the float for a leak. Cleaned and cleaned and cleaned. When I hook it up to the gas line, off the bike, no leaking. When the carb is mounted it drools gas from the front openings where the accelerator jet is. I have it down to a slow leak but its still misbehaving. Do I have a lemon carb? |

Kc Either I did something wrong when I replaced the needle valve or there is something causing it to leak. I expect it did work for you. One question, the needle is different looking than others I have seen, was it stock, or something special? |

Sounds like dirt or a burr on either the needle or the seat... When you say it drools when "mounted to the bike" - do you mean with the three screws holding it to the support bracket? Perhaps there is a hairline crack at one of those screw holes that only expands/opens when you run a screw into it? Just throwing darts here... |

You may have something hanging the float action after you install the float bowl. A bent arm or protruding gasket, etc. |

Stock. Probably jetted up for the force exhaust by the previous owner back in the day. Something is hanging up some where or even worse, missing. Either way it has to be in the float assembly. Doesn't take much to cause problems. |

Throwing another dart here. If the carb has an accelerator pump, that may be the source of the problem. Engine vibration causing the pump to 'work', causing the drool you are seeing. Hope this helps, Dave |

OK thanks for the darts. I cleaned it up last night and hooked up the fuel line to it with the carb in my hand, not leaking. Put it back on the bike. not leaking. When it was leaking it was from the jet openings at the front of the carb under the accelerator pump jet. Will fire it up and see if it behaves. |

Alternatively, get a Mikuni. |

No dough for the Mikuni. Did find a great article on the float valve repair. Thank God I dont have to do four of them! http://www.amervoyassoc.org/Documents/CV%20Carb,%2 0Float%20Valve%20Replacement_BKaufmann.pdf |

OK tried it out this morning and at lunch, still not leaking. MESSAGE to carburator: If you leak I will not hesitate to take you apart and fix you. If you still don't behave I MIGHT replace you. You have been warned! The starter is now behaving itself since I placed an order for a new one, will see how that turns out... |
