I installed led front turn signals and integrated tail light on my 97 S1. I also changed the flasher to the led flasher. When the bike is off but the ign is toggled on they flash fine. Fire it up, and they stop flashing and just stay steady. Turn it back off and they flash again. I'm stumped. Can anyone tell me what to fix? |

Sounds like when bike is running you have a steady state 12VDC going through the flasher relay to the turn signals. Sounds like you have a NC (normally closed) flasher and you need a NO (normally open) flasher. |

funny story: I was installing LED flashers on my moto guzzi years ago, and could not get them to work, install check, nothing, install the standard bulb, they work fine...pull the wires, install hanging free...the LED signals work fine, re route the wires install the LED signals in the fairing, nothing....man I must have done that trick 3 or 4 times (more?) and nothing each time I mounted them in the fairing....then it finally dawned on me...L...E...D...light emitting diode...oh they only pass voltage a specified way, switched the wires and they worked...randomly each time I fished the wires out and plugged them in I got it hooked up correctly, reroute the wires, mount the signals and randomly got the wires backwards...EACH TIME!!! talk about a "doh" moment.....thanks for helping brain! clearly not the case here....but it reminded me of my time of total confusion and frustration working out of a tool bag on a moto guzzi in a parking garage in DC....not my finest hour.... |

The only LED's that need resistors are the ones trying to run through a stock flasher relay. Stock relays are resistance-based, hence the resistor. LED relays are time-based and resistors are not required. The "misbehavior" when a resistor is needed is a fast flash, not a steady-on. |

I just used some leds off ebay and if they won't flash. buy some load resistors they work! Also the led signals need to be all 4 the same kind\brand\model. I have tried this many times and know what works. Try and find leds that have the highest watts you can find the higher the better chance they will work right off the bat. Mine blink fast and i love that! it only is supposed to blink fast to let you know a bulb is burned out on the normal system. Also the electronic flashers are BS! I have never seen one work any better than a stock one so don't waste your money. |

All of which have been converted over to non-matching LED signals (1125 CR mirrors/front signals and home-made rears). Works perfectly on every bike, normal flash rate, no issues, plug-and-play installation. |

Ok none of those solutions work. That flasher from asb is a 3 prong and mine is a 2 so that won't work, I've tried it. I don't have hyperflash, I have a steady on only when the bike is running. I can't use all 4 the same signals because the rear is an integrated light so I really only have 2 signals. What could be causing this? Too much power when the bike is running or the vibration? It seems like one of those 2 has to be the culprit since they work fine when the key is turned to accessory. |

The third prong of that flasher probably goes to ground. Do they stop flashing when you turn the key from ACC to ON or when your motor actually starts? Try going back to the stock flasher: do they flash but too fast? |

Stock flasher won't make them flash. It goes to steady on when the bike actually starts running |

Try with either front pair or the integrated rear individually and see if they work if you only have one pair hooked up. I think it has something to do with the integrated rear set up. |

Get a electronic flasher relay. They flash at a preset rate regardless of load, and they are easy to install. |

Sorry, but is the flasher directional? Mine is a three prong and I didn't have any trouble, but if it's only two would this be an issue like the relays being put in backwards? |

I reversed the wires before I ever posted on here and it only works one way. How can I use an electronic flasher if they are 3 prong and mine only has 2 wires? I've tried it and it didnt work. |

Oh and by the way the one I'm using is an electronics flasher. It also has a ground wire and says it is 20 amps max. I wonder if that is the problem? |

I will post my directions later today it is very simple to build and you use the regular flasher. I tried every flasher and combo and it did not work till i used the resistors |

I made my own from the above the last two pages i just attached as an option it is very easy i have mine attached at the rear turns and made a small bundle wrapped in electrical tape attached to the area that the seat bokt goes through on a 96 S1 |

Ok so just on off chance I put the stock flasher back in and wha la....it worked! I only tested it with the stock flasher with the bike on but not running. For some reason when the bike is running it makes a difference. Go ahead, get your laughes out at my expense...I deserve it I guess. So for wasting everyone's time. Thanks for the responses. |

What I think is your stock relay was stuck or simply had corrosion on the contacts and, in pulling it, you "fixed" it...for now that is. |

I've had a few stock HD flasher issues over the many years on the X1. The most common- it gets WET and its toast.. I discovered that twice over. They seem overly fragile. I run incandescent fronts, and LED rear bliankers. I also have the LED tailight with integrated amber blinkers. That kit came with resistors, but it said only install them if there is an issue like rapid blinking, etc. Never had those problems so they're wired in directly... |
