I have a 00 buell m2 and I have this (clack clack clack )noise coming from the left side by the shifter. Any ideas? I was really low on fluids due to a leaking clutch cable. Added new fresh high performance gear oil. And still hear (clack clack clack) stressing if my tranny is going out. Could it be the clutch |

I would first check the tension on the primary chain. |

"high performance gear oil" may eat your stator. research possible effects of different actions before performing them if you are not familiar with the machinery. the results can be unfortunate/dangerous....... |

Kyle - sounds like you need to get a service manual first thing. These are relatively easy to maintain, but the manual is a necessity. Primary chain adjustment screw is on the bottom of the primary with a locknut around it. Also under there is the primary fluid drain plug, so don't confuse the two. And yes, pay attention to the type of fluids you use, again the service manual is your friend. |

The primary chain is the drive link between the engine and the clutch basket. It runs half-immersed in transmission lubricant and can be adjusted by a plastic-faced shoe, which can be tightened by means of a lock-nut secured allan-key operated setscrew which protrudes through the lower side of the primary cover. Tension can be checked by removing the small access cover located in the upper left quadrant of the primary cover; you should be able to manually lift the chain a finger-width or so. When the chain is too loose, it makes a slapping sound. When it is too tight, it can bend the transmission shaft which will make a rhythmic tapping after it has been ruined. The early design of the adjusting shoe has a tendency to separate from its backing plate and become lodged above the chain. You really need to buy a service manual. |
