So I changed my oil and replaced my Vance and Hines muffler, put everything back together again,NAND now I hear some odd ticking/creaking noises... I checked all my bolts holding the exhaust on and hey are definitely snug. My main concern is that oil isn't circulating got some odd reason. When I started it I only let it run for little over a minute. The oil in the tank looked bubbly while running, but i couldn't see like a constant street or bubbling or anything, just foamy oil. How do I make sure the oil is circulating? The dash didn't have the oil pressure light on, but where is the pressure reading taken from? Any suggestions would be awesome. I would hate to hurt something else after all the work I have done lately on it, especially with lees burg bikefest coming up soon |

I think the noise would be pretty severe if no oil was circulating, not just some odd ticking noises. Tick can be an exhaust leak, creak would most likely not be oil related. Did you take your header off and put it back on when you replaced the muffler? |

No, just the slip on. The only thing that kind of concerns me is because I did the oil change at the same time...I am going to try putting some see slant around the slip joint on the muffler and see if that stops the noise, I just didn't think an exhaust leak would make the kind of noise. We shall see. |

If you just repacked the muffler, the noises may not be "new"...just the muffler is quieter now so you notice them. |

I am hearing the same thing but my "ticking" is coming from the rockers. I did an oil change, repacked my muffler, and changed the rocker box gaskets. i was told "thats just how harley motors sound" i also agree that it might have been there a while but you only really notice it now because you just repacked the muffler. |

I agree with Rat, You both repacked/replaced your mufflers. Newly quieter bottom side allows you to hear more of the noises on the top side... Pop the lid off the oil bag and look inside you should see oil movement while idling. |

if your oil pump was broken you would hear a can of rocks |

And valvetrain noise (lifters, rockers, etc) is rhythmic. "Bad" noises are usually uneven in volume and pace. My S2 is significantly "louder" now that I pulled the supertrapp and run a stock muffler along with thunderstorm heads and X1 cams pushing rockers under XB rockerboxes (very thin covers). But its rhythmic and even. Just "tappy". |

Yeah, I was amazed/scared by how much noise the top end makes, after I switched from a blown-out V&H to the stock muffler. Since I started wearing earplugs all the time, don't notice it often... |
