I'm going to buy a Forcewinder Elbow and filter off a guy for $85 bucks. Is there anything else I would need to make it work or could I just bolt it up and go?

So long as you have the proper mount/support & a gasket, then thats about it. if you currently have a completely stock setup including filter, then you might need to up the jetting just a bit top compensate for the better breathing.

This idea would be a good thing to consider - Dyna must have forgot - I'm sure he would of pointed it out - had he remembered. Yes jetting would be needed, however if the modification is done correctly as shown - easy Dremel tool time -then your jetting should be only 1 step up more or less - a dyno is always the best telltale - as you can see by the link - if not modified - you could be setting yourself up for a false lean condition - as is explained in that link - lol

Does anyone have a picture of the support/mount that I would need? If the guy does not have it can I buy that mount? I would hate to buy it and not be able to use it.

It is a straight bolt on to the carb - with intake carb gasket - modified also(?) - there was extra mounting gear for the breather, but you can catch can or even just breather/filter it (Just drain regularly). Any support is integral to the carb to intake to the head portion through the manifold - lol

But now the support is not hidden behind anything & some of them can be quite ugly. You gonna want a nice shiny new chrome one. And depending on what air cleaner he presently has, he could have a completely different setup. The ones for use with a hypercharger for example have certain areas cut away for clearances & a stock bracket wont work.

Either way if yours is in good shape & can be polished up nice, then you are good to go. If its all nasty, rusty, what have you, a new one can be picked up for about $25 or so.

Nah, just bored.

That & I am so looking forward to work in the am...not!!

Personally I would avoid the Forcewinder. If you should happen to find yourself involved in anaccident & lay the bike down on the right side, that setup can dig into the pavement & will rip off your carb, cables, breather bolts, etc. had it happen to me. If it wasnt for that damn air cleaner i could have ridden my bike home instead of paying $108 for a tow.

So What you are saying is I will need a Gasket to go between the forcwinder and the carb and some kind of routing system for the breather bolts? I take it so it won't puke (limited puking)? But I don't really need a support mount for the carb? Isn't it only suctioned in by a rubber boot? I'm pretty new at wrenching and I want to fully understand what I'm getting into.

You do need a support, but the stock one already on your bike will work just fine

Yes the stock support will work but you may want to powder coat it because now it will be exposed to the weather.

My Forcewinder was the "improved" one that came with a breather set-up that has all these curvy aluminum tubes that look pretty trick, but mine leaked. Solution? I ordered a filter without the breather tube holes in it. Then I just ran braided lines straight from the cylinders to a Sel Motion catch can. It looks nice and clean.

Now that is all cleaned up because I switched to XB rocker boxes. This is, I believe, the cleanest looking and most functional set-up.

One thing about the Forcewinder is that several people will tell you that they get higher dyno numbers with the race set up or a hypercharger. Call me a poser but I am willing to spare one or two ponies to show off my V-twin and polished Mikuni. Plus I only ride street, and I don't race people (well O.K. sometimes, but only to the next stop light).

The abslolutely most hilarious thing about a forcewinder is that every once in a while guys who don't know much about bikes will go out and buy a jap bike, pull up next to you, look at your bike and think you have some crazy horsepower making contraption on it. I am not kidding you!

Later, Paul
