the previous owner had stuck these Harley Davidson "shield" logo stickers on the tank cover. I dare not pull on them- so I intend to wait for a hot day in the Summer and hope that the heat will soften the glue enough to allow me to remove them without any damage to the paint/plastic. Any other ideas?

There's not a drop of paint on an X1. Your bodywork is colored plastic. Removal with heat should work fine. A hairdryer or heat gun will substitute for a hot day, just don't get close enough to warp the plastic. Goo-gone on a rag (or WD40) will take off any adhesive residue. |

Use a heat gun (carefully) and dental floss. Yes, it really works. Then clean up the left over adhesive with the solvent of your choice. Start with WD 40 and go from there. |

WD40 might get it off all by itself. No heat may be required. |

Careful now. It's stuck on top of another sticker. Don't kill both in the process! |

Careful with brakleen - it can etch/melt the plastic and stain the powdercoat on the frame. WD40 will "melt" the adhesive just fine, without causing any damage to the surfaces. |
