Hi Guys - WP Roma front forks on my 1991 RSS leak from the inside of the brake/axel stanchion. These are low mileage units, no damage or accidents. They are being rebuilt at WP in Germany but still leak with or without any load, driving everyone crazy. Does anyone have any experience or information about this problem? Any shop manual or parts books? Sure need help here, many thanks!! | ||

Wait...did I read that right, WP is rebuilding WP forks but needs manuals on how to do it? That doesn't sound good... | ||

The bolt that holds the dampner rod goes up through the axle hole and has a copper washer to seal it. I would try replacing that first, but if your forks are being rebuilt by WP I am sure they know this. There are also o-rings on the compression adjuster but if that was leaking it would leak on the outside, not around the axle. I have the S2 parts book and service manual so if you need me to scan the diagrams PM me. Mike | ||

Thanks for the comments - WP has the diagrams and manuals, but I don't. Seals are OK, replaced, but the fork oil keeps coming from the axel hole. Good suggestion to replace the bolt and crush washer, passed along to WP/Germany. We'll see how they do/// | ||

I don't think Blackhawk is talking about the usual suspects like seals (which are mighty hard to come by for these forks) or the copper washers. From reading his post, it sounds as if the typical bases are covered but there is still a leak that no one can figure out. | ||

Mine have gotten scored up by dirt trapped in the seals. The tubes may need polishing. | ||

Fork seals are easy, BTW. All you need is the right oil, seals, the metal retainers, and some simple tools. I blow the fork and shock seals about every 15K miles. I've become ok at fixin' 'em. | ||

Rick_a, where are you sourcing S2(t) fork seals these days? Edit: never mind - I see now you have an S1- different animal: expensive, but still available fork seals. (Message edited by fahren on March 22, 2013) | ||

Blackhawk, don't tighten the axle pinch bolts as much and see if that helps. | ||
