I know this has been done before, but here is my interpretation. I finished it last night and rode to work today. I'm extremely satisfied. For those of you who have been calling for a new sport touring machine, whaddya think? Cheers, Bob

What was your solution to making the subframe fit ............... I have all the parts including the Buell luggage to do my CR |

I built two stainless steel adapter plates for the upper subframe mounts then did a little grinding on the lower mounts of the subframe for frame clearance. The most work was in fitting the electrical components into the Uly undertail and altering the undertail to clear the offset shock location. If you want to see pics of this, let me know. Bob |

Bob That's pretty slick. If you get up this way, stop by NRHS, I'd love to look it over closely. I'm so buried in heads to port, I'm there every day... Zack |

I believe we will start seeing more of this combination. It has the form and function that makes it just enough different to look "RIGHT". Nice job. |

I like it! The triple tail is a really nice feature for any bike. I'd have left off the top box... but I love the side bags. Use them day in and day out, and when you go on a road trip, get some waterproof duffles and just strap them to the top on the triple tail. Wouldn't work for two up touring, but would for everything else. Very neat though, nice work! |

Thanks for all of the nice comments, I appreciate them. Here are a few pics of the upper mounts and the underseat electrics. Also, two pics of the Mosfet regulator position behind the license plate. Bob

Yes, very nice job Bob. That Uly tail looks very much at home on the 1125s. You can get the little BUELL emblems for the Hepcos: 90098-05Y |

I have the emblems for the bags, or I should say I have emblems for the Journey bags. The recesses in the Junior bags are guite a bit bigger. I need a part number for the emblems of the Outdoorsman bags (XB12XP). I'm on the fence as to whether I want to remove the H&B identification. I will get a couple of pics of the left side posted in the next day or so. Bob |

By the way, I have to give some credit to Jornum 1. If I had not seen his project in October '10, I don't know if I would have purchased my CR with the intention of building this bike. I was riding a Uly that both I and my wife loved. The back of that Uly is what you see here. I have not met nor spoken to you, Jason, but thanks for the inspiration. Bob |

Did the conversion change the seat height any? |

The seat is the older Uly low seat. This seating position feels a little lower than the stock CR seat, but not so much that I'll have a problem with it. Pics of the left side

My only nagging concern with this and this version http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/706195.html?1363572226 is the strength of the left hand side subframe, if you imagine those side rails as mounted to a Ully when you put weight on the back of the seat the force would be trying to pivot the side rail at it's lower mount while pulling against the top mount in basically a straight line. with both your versions the right side is still doing that but the left as it pivots down on the lower mount instead of pulling the top in a straight line it would now be pulling the top rail downwards slightly, my concern is can that rail stand that type of loading??????? I have seen these rails fail on a standard Ully as well. Maybe I'm being over cautious :-) |

Time will tell. I built this for my own consumption, not for anyone else. "Nothing ventured, nothing gained". Bob |

And a very fine job you've done Bob :-) ....that last post wasn't a criticism by the way .......Like i said earlier I have all the Ully parts and plan to do mine at some point .....just that one nagging doubt that's stopping me at the moment. |

Two thumbs up! I have really been considering purchasing the BMW F800GT, but now I see that this could be a nice alternative. |

Why is it so hard to find Ulysses seat and brackets to do this job? Who's got them handy? |
