It seems that my my stop light isn't working anymore. Position light works, but both front and rear brake won't make the stop light on. Everything else just works fine. I checked the light bulb on my CR and it just works fine. I switched to a carb on my X1 with the RRC kit, and I have a RRC modified ECM installed on the bike, so all the electric wiring is original. Does the tail light work through the ECM? What else should I check? Thank You for any help! | ||

Multi-meter is your friend. Check the pin that gives +12VDC to the brake side of your bulb. I was not clear via your "I checked the light bulb on my CR and it just works fine" comment. You swapped the bulbs and both the position and brake lights illuminated, yes? If that is the case, you don't have a wiring problem, you have a bulb problem with the original. I'd leave the one in that works, and replace the one you "borrowed" from your CR. | ||

Sorry for my english, I'm from Italy! :-) I wanted to say that the bulb of the X1 works both for position and brakes on the CR; On the other side the bulb of the CR only works for position light on the X1. The bulbs are both ok on the CR, so the problem should be somewhere in the X1! | ||

OK, now I understand. And your english is better than my italian  Using your multi-meter, go to either switch, at the front brake lever switch, and also at the rear brake pedal switch. Using your multi-meter in the OHMS position... At the rear tail light socket, connect one multi-meter lead to the pin at the socket that makes the brake light come on. Connect the other to either your front or rear brake switch. Is there continuity? You may have to try more than one pin on the switch before you have the correct one! If you do not see approximately ZERO ohms, from that position at the switch, you will need to follow that wire to the next junction and ultimately, to the light socket pin in the tail light that controls your brake light. More than likely, you have a pinched wire somewhere. I would take off all items/covers that you had to take off when you converted your X1 to a carb setup. This is where your problem is located. | ||

Well that's what I call a clear and analytical answer! I don't have a multi-meter, but I suppose it's time to buy one. Curious thing is that I had to change, replace or take off almost nothing when I switched to carb. Original ignition, wires and their covers. I only had to take off the fuel pump and to change the ECM: that's why I asked if the ECM controls the brake switches in any way. But I agree, it has to be a a pinched wire. S**t happens! | ||

The ECM does not control the brake light. Check your fuses. Does your horn work? I think they're on the same fuse - no horn + no brake light = bad fuse. Also check the light socket, sometimes the pins get bent and don't touch the bulb right. | ||

Fuse are all good, and horn works; I may have changed a fuse in other/wrong position (I don't really know since when brake light stopped working...) when I changed the tail but I don't think so. False contact in light socket may be a good advice too! | ||

I had my bulb in backwards/upside down once. Brake light stayed on all the time. Could this be it? | ||

not to hyjack thread, but i have a similar problem with my x1, it is with my turn signals they only work when they want . |
