I bought an all balls fork seal set on ebay. Drove it in with homemade seal driver (pvc pipe) It leaks like a sieve. Seal orientation is correct, work environment was very clean, plenty of brake clean. Used honda red fork oil. WTF!? I guess I need to go ahead and order everything this bike needs: Seals, bushings, springs.... and a proper driver. Rest of post edited (need to cool down a bit) Where do I buy springs that don't bottom out in a normal aggressive stop. | ||

Sorry about your fork seals. American Sport Bike carries a nice driver; that's what I used. If your bike is a 2006 model, get the 2007 progressive rate springs. Everyone that's changed to them say they're a big improvement. There was also a recent thread on reducing front end dive in the Big, Bad, & Dirty Forum (the normal place for Uly discussions). A couple of people suggested increasing the amount of fork oil in each leg by a few millimeters. The reduces the amount of air in the top of the fork which helps keep the fork from bottoming out. Motorcycle Inverted Fork Oil Seal Driver Tool 43mm KTM KTM? That's pretty cool. KTM fork seals work well on our bikes also. Charlie's Uly has KTM fork seals. | ||

Trick my metric buddy uses at his shop and used on my XB, worked Great. Take a thin plastic bag like you put veggies in at the grocery store. Cute a small piece out that will go around the seal. Lube up the inside and outside of bag piece. Wrap it around the seal. Cut one of your old seals in half. Use the old seal to drive the new seal it. Pull out the plastic bag. Slides right out and keeps and dirt from tearing new seal as it goes it. rev | ||

Use stock seals. Wrap electrical tape around the fork tube to about 3/16" thick a couple of inches away from the seal. Place one end of the fork assembly on the ground and the other end right in your gut above the belt. Press down. Remove tape, install retainer and dust seal. |
