I found these jerrycanisters at local store. So i got idea to add some extra fuel capasity to bike (2 X 5 liters). I managed to make a rack ("i did it myself - and saved..."). But the color... -eek! Now, that they are unused, will any spraycan paint stick (and stay) on them? matt black maybe. Color succestions, please.

I like the color but not on your bike. They should be red if they are holding gas. If you use a rattle can, dont spill gas on them. |

Maybe you should paint the airbox cover and flyscreen to match the cans? I've never seen a lime green Ulysses. Really though, I wouldn't want two cans of gas that close to the hot engine and header. It seems that they would also keep even more cool air from reaching the engine, which runs hot anyway. If you paint the Jerry cans with rattle cans, the paint will most likely dissolve if gas is spilled on them, which will happen sooner or later. (Message edited by motorbike on March 14, 2013) |

I was going to ask you where you got those but then I checked your profile. Finland isn't on my way to work. |

Powder coat them. Thats fine for gas. Looks like fine job and my only thoughts would be if you had an accident. Genuine Jerry cans are very strong but clones, if they are, are not always as good. Some sort of extra protection may be a good idea as a split seam could turn you and the bike into a fire ball. |

You could sew or fashion some slip-covers out of welding blanket w/roll down/velcro tops.. I've seen some carbon weave patterns in dark grey/black that would look cool, plus you'd have a bit of extra insulation/protection. I just don't see you having any luck with coating them.. remember that plastics will always out-gas to some degree |

They would be safer behind the rider ... at least then you are travelling away from any accidently spilt fuel if something does happen |

*Uly-man, they are made of steel. *Motorbike, i think i have clear 8 cm (3 inch) to headers. But i do think i add some heat insulation behind the canister. But adding crashbars might be good idea |

It looks like you have a base mount for the cans. If it was me I would think of using the same part as an outer protection or even making them into a sort of "slide in" system for the Jerry cans as it would not only be safer but also look very slick. |

^ Yea, the gas cans are cool but the front wheel is more interesting. Tell us about that! |

It's a sportster 19" wheel. Original idea came from here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/disc us.cgi?pg=prev&topic=142838&page=409771 I throw away sportys bearings (cone roll bearings). Made new axle. Then i made some spacers and installed FAG ball bearings. I had to let go Buell brake... Brake caliber is Grimeca (Aprilia Pegaso?) with DIY bracket. Fender needed some heat and new holes to make room for tire. |

Ah ha, they are steel.. still, they will vent/pressurize when heated.. you probably should figure out how to deal with that. Yeah, rhino or line-x would be durable! |

Wow! Totally missed the wheel the first time! How is the handling? |

May also be a little harder to wheelie when the Jerry Cans are full! Looks like you did a good job on the mounts anyway. Maybe the engine heat won't be a problem since you left that much clearance. Maybe you could get some pods from and 1125 to fit over the cans? Just kidding, of course. And yes, that front wheel is interesting. I see the brakes are even on the opposite side now. Must have been a lot of work? |

About handling: On paved road it's bit noisy with knobbies. I tried also with street tires and it's still very good on turns (offcourse not as good as it is with 17" wheel and brake, which i put on when i want , -but i don't ) Front brake is also less effective, but it's better on gravel as it won't lock so easy. Handling on gravel, sand, mud and anywhere offroad is incredible good. I live in backwoods -deep in there... and i ride a lot on forrest roads and such. Also my trips go often to lappland avoiding paved roads. And it's not difficult job to do, -and sporty wheels are cheap even you didn't have one lying around like i had. I do recommend But i still have to paint those cans... |

Have you gone to your local paint and body supply and asked their advice for paint? I have found them very helpful. |
