I have started to put things back together on my 99X1 and have a brand new wiring harness. My question is do I get the side stand switch or just bypass it? The old harness was bypassed. I kinda like being able to start it on the side stand?? |

you can start it on the stand with the switch in place, its when a gear is selected with the stand in the down position it will cut the engine, end of the day its your choice dude. |

Ohhh I see. I never really got to ride my X1 yet just from the street to my shop. It knocked so bad I tore it apart. Now after much work I am starting to put all the assemblies back together. That is as soon as the powder coat jerks finish my parts. I was told a week and a half and it is just over three weeks now. I even ended up buying my own powder coat gun and an oven. My next project won't have all the same hangups.. |

previous owner of my M2 disabled the sidestand and the clutch switch. I warm it up on the side stand with the idle up around 1500 every couple of weeks or so. I keep a dead 12V battery out of a UPS to put behind the back tire when I do, it will back out of the garage on it's own it shakes so much |

Mine has prevented my embarrassment at least twice that I can recall. If (when) it finally fails, I doubt I'll pay money to replace it though. |

Just to get my 2 cents in I still have mine hooked up. I will try to keep it stock if I can. If it fails I intend to replace it. Gosh darn I do believe winters are getting longer up here in Visconsin (Ya dere U betcha). |

I have mine. I think it's a useful safety feature, especially when starting up at o'six hundred in the morning after a twelve hour shift. I've had a few parking lot memory failures and the safety features have helped me not wreck my bike. That's just me though. Roughly 25,000 miles on the bike now and it still works. |

I think all side stand switches should be removed. Otherwise, how will the human race ever become better at motorcycle riding? |

I removed mine around 30K miles when I was diagnosing a weird problem. The side stand switch ended up NOT being the problem. |

Mine lasted to 48,000. It failed and was replaced with a short length of wire. It did outlast the switch on my KLR250. When that failed, it completely baffled me. I didn't even know it was there since I never tried to ride with the stand down I think it lasted to 7000 miles. It's always a good idea to put something vulnerable that will kill the engine as low as possible for an offroad vehicle. |

100,000 miles on my 96 S1, the side stand switch like the rest of the bike is going strong. |

mine failed on my 99X1 so i bypassed it. Has been trouble free ever since. I always double check to make sure the stand is up before driving away. |

on a related note. 30 years ago a buddy took off from a local gas station on his 1978 KZ1000 Z1-R, forgetting he left the side stand down. After unsuccessfully trying to make a left turn, later he says to me " there was grass, there was sky, there was grass, there was sky . . . " |

on checking my 99 m2 over I found the male connector from the side stand switch has disintegrated so I need to by pass the switch how do I go about this as I want to do a proper/safe job? |

You just need to cut off the connector and splice the two wires with a waterproof connection. |

Mine wouldn't start at a gas station years ago, I looked down and found a piece of metal, folded it in half, pushed it between the pins and it's been there ever since. No problems. When I finally get around to putting it back together I'm taking it out completely. |

Nice video, I have been riding since the 70s and can't remember that ever happening to me personally. I am sure it is a good thing but since I have no switch already I think I will leave it that way. Out of my four motorcycles none have this switch and no issues. YET. |

My harness is sans the entire safety circuit. |
