I have a Mac with VMware app and can't get ECMspy to recognize the cable. USB is working properly. At least if I plug anything else into it, and device manager confirms this. I need to tps reset and check some trouble codes. Argh this is frustrating. Why cant it just work. Im using a cable made by xoptinside.com. Please help | ||

I'm not a Mac expert, but I suspect you're Mac does not have an old-style rs-232 serial port, so your cable connects the Buell's serial port to the Mac's USB port. The reason it doesn't work is the Mac expects real USB communications from another USB port. And ECMSpy expects to work with a serial port. On a PC (running Windows) the way around this problem is you would install a special software driver that would make a USB port look like a serial port to ECMSpy. I have no idea if this type of software driver exists for the Mac. Or if it would work running on top of VMware. Your best bet might be to get an old, cheap PC box or laptop. | ||

I was only able to use ECM Spy on my Mac by running XP via Bootcamp. Ran flawlessly. Then I installed a hybrid drive in my laptop(32GB flash in a 750GB hard drive) and haven't been able to load XP..  Z | ||

For Mac I recommended VirtualBox. Is free and easy to use. And for ECMSPY works 100% https://www.virtualbox.org/ | ||

David, does VirualBox fix the driver issue? I think thats my problem. Cant get the correct driver INSTALLED on my Mac running VMware a spare IBM running Windows XP | ||

If your Mac has an Intel CPU (x86 32bit or X64 64bit) then I think your best bet is to follow Zac4mac's suggestion and get Bootcamp. I think it's a free download. This will allow you to run Windows without having to run it on top of an emulator such as VMWare or VirtualBox. Once you have Windows running then load the Windows driver at the link provided by Garrcano (VCP driver for Windows). If your Mac is older and has PPC hardware (non-Intel CPU) then at that same site you can also find a driver for your older MAC: http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm Install the driver for your PPC Mac while NOT running VMWare or VirtualBox. Once the Mac VCP driver is installed and working under the real Mac OS, THEN try configuring VMWare (or VirtualBox) to know about the virtual serial port that ECMSpy looks for. In my case: Install the driver only in Virtual Box. In Mac OS X did not, but only in the Windows system through Virtual Box. 1. Download to your desktop and unzip the drivers GarrCano bond. 2.) Connect the cable within the Windows environment. 3.) In Virtual Box go to Devices / USB / Cable The system starts searching for the driver. Manually search for it on the desktop. I really works 100% |
