Hi Everyone,
I am a life long rider getting my license at 17 and am now 53. I have owned all kinds of bikes from Yamaha 1968 350 2 stoke (1st bike) to a 1969 Honda 750, a 1980 Gold Wing GL 1100 (still have that one), and more recently Honda VTR 1000 and YZF 600, my newest addition is a 1996 S1 in yellow, found it for sale on a nearby front lawn it only has 5600 miles but they appear to be fairly hard miles.
I have been drawn to the Buells since first seeing one in the 1990's. I will definately have many questions about my S1 and look forward to learning much more from the contributors on this forum. I think this old tuber is really cool in looks and attitude. I plan on cleaning it up a bit and getting it really ready to ride. I did put about 500 miles on it since picking it up in september.

Last week I traded a 1997 Subaru Legacy GT for a 1997 Lighning Strike S1. It is absolutely beautiful and reportedly had never been ridden in the rain.

It only has 9,575 miles on the odo over the last 15 years. Did I mention I live near Seattle? If you didn't know it already, "Seattle" is indian for "Never stops raining". Hence the low miles.

You know I've had the Lightning for over a week now and I still haven't ridden it yet. The rain just refuses to stop coming down.

The best I can do is go out and start the bike up every couple of days and let it run in the driveway. Then I push it back into the garage. You'd think that being a 3rd generation Puget Sounder I'd be use to this weather by now? But at 55 years old I guess that's never going to happen8>(

I will say this, my newly acquired V2 looks right at home sitting next to my old V4 torque monster. I look forward to the day I have to choose which 1200 to ride.

Welcome guys!

Sweet looking V-Max there Doug G!

Doug from down under, there's some basic build numbers at the top of the XBoard that may help answer your questions, scroll down a bit on the main page, or:

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/327 77/32777.html?1355406677

Aeronut, you"ll enjoy reading the Thumper forum, there are some very knowledgeable Blast owners there, and a wealth of information once you start reading the old posts there.

Dries, I think it's awesome that we have Buells running around in South Africa, I know they are popular out in the world but would not have thought to look down there for them!

Again, welcome, it's nice to have new owners on board!

I need some help from you all. I am a novelist. The main character in my series is a NASCAR driver whose car is sponsored by Harley-Davidson. He has a sports bike as well as a full-sized Harley...so it has to be a Buell. He doesn't use it in competition...just daredevil driving on his own (which is his persona). My question is: what model of Buell would he most likely have? And why?

Hello, I am a new rider with a buell blast. I bought the bike used 2 months ago and have had nothing but problems since.

I bought it from sweetwater harley davidson with 10,000 miles on it. They overfilled it on oil when they gave it to me. The boot cracked and they fixed it. Then, the spark plug blew out of the head. They rebuilt the engine, but it still has problems. They also gave me a rental which was very nice of them.

Novelist Mary,

"Ghost Rider" Nicholas Cage rode a (1999-2002) Buell X1 when the character stunted under the Big Top. That would be the bike from the "tube frame" years to use.
If your thinking of something more modern looking from the XB models....No Firebolt, No Ulysis, No 1125. You want a minimum amount of plastic on the bike.
That's just my opinion. Please don't crucify me anyone.

The Ghost Rider bike was not a Buell specific model though, it was a one off, actually eleven off if I remember right, built by the makers of the film... they asked around a bit here prior to their build, we referred them to Al at A.S.B.

... it strays from the Buell original design concept a bit... but hmmm...

Actually, now that I'm trying to talk you out of it it may be one of the better options if you want something particularly different. Most, if not all of the parts were sourced from board sponsor American Sport Bike. The X1 was used as a stunt bike by an HD sponsored stunt rider back in the early days. They are usually geared down for that stuff... there's been more than a few XB's used for the same. If you want pure Buell there was a few special edition X1's - a Carbon Fiber Extreme, Millennium, Blue Race Stripe, Red Race Stripe, they were all cosmetic packages but were pretty cool bikes. There was also an X1W in 2002, also a cosmetic package that included the blue ceramic coated header.

I would have said S1W if I hadn't seen the Ghost Rider post first. They were the hot rod of the day and have that waspish look that has always said "Buell" to me. There was a bike referred to as the Lightning Strike which was a blacked out version of the S1W, that was a sweet, sexy bike there.

My thoughts were a Buell Lightning. Either S1, XB, or X1. I'm prejudiced to prefer the X1, just to be fair and honest. S1 with the steel swingarm and thin seat pad always rubbed me wrong. S1 plastic rear was a let down as well.
X1 from Ghost Rider was unique with dirt tires and special exhaust. It was still an X1 though. The aluminum seat section is such a work of art that he's never been duplicated. Erik needs to send that designer a Christmas card!!
My thoughts of a "Harley" rider would avoid most XB offerings. Extreme seat height, short wheelbase, and extra plastic give the leather and chaps wearing clan a major pause.
Plus if you make a movie and destroy half a dozen bikes, there were about 12,000 X1's made. They have an iconic Buell image in my mind.
Just saying.

New to Buell motorcycles. I just bought a X1 Millennium, and being Winter in New England I am stripping it down and making it my own. I am a 60 year old rider (been riding since I was 18) and have several bikes. I want to make this a stripped down hot rod, so most of the plastics go. I put on Bub 2 into 2 exhaust and a new air intake, looking for a good seat conversion (single). I took off the rider pegs, rear fender and plate holder and am fabricating a lower stainless seat pan. New smoked brake/turn signal unit. Renthal bars with bar end mirrors and a Rox 2" handlebar riser. I'm keeping the original colors. Questions: horn, seat and suggestions?

Welcome Carl.

While the thread link I'm providing is in the M2 section I suggest you read through it and at least get some ideas on what you can do with your seat. Corbin made seats for these bikes, though the Buell Select seat was a great saddle as well, Baldwin and Mustang have done seats for Buell owners and I've read good about both.

There is a wealth of information in the Knowledge Vault and there are many knowledgeable owners in the Old School section. Do some reading.

I hope you didn't spend too much on that Bub's system; the factory system, and factory race system from Buell are about the best you can get. As a seasoned and experienced ride you probably don't want to hear it , but you really should spend some time riding that bike before starting your power mods. Money is typically much better spent on these bikes with improved/rebuilt/tuned suspension rather than going straight after power since they are so good from the factory.

Force makes some decent pipes for the bike if you are looking for loud.

Read through some threads in the Old School, do some google searching there for exhaust and intake or power mods. Your time there will be worth it in the long run.

-Mike

Hi all,

I'm not a Buell owner YET, but am actively looking for the right 1125CR. I'm in California and we have the strict vehicle import laws, which makes purchasing out of state vehicles a bit tougher.

I currently own a Victory Hammer and love it, but I'm looking for a 2nd bike for the twisties and short rides around town. Hope to gather as much info as I can about the CR's (Already read up on the Stator, VR, Clutch Weep issues).

I'll most likely just be a lurker until I find the right CR for me.

Happy riding all!

I seperated from the hubby 5 months ago and kept the bike i would have given him for xmas, I dont feel bad he still has the bike i bought him last xmas : )its a bit, no its way too big for me actually and far too heavy. I am not new to enjoying the thrills of a bike but im very interested in being the driver not the passenger, we all had to start somewhere. I want to be very independent so secretly asking you ...can anyone recommend a nice ladies bike for building confidence. oh by the way im in wales uk and never have to worry about the bad weather theres always some around the corner : )))

Welcome Max! That 9 motor may not be the most powerfull motor Buell ever made, but it was as reliable as an anvil and sings a pretty song.

Hello Everyone
New to this great site and am anxiously awaiting delivery of a 2006 Uly that has had several thousand dollars spent already on some fine farkles. I re-started my motorcycling 4 years ago with an incredible WeeStrom. I sold it 2 years ago and bought a used 2011 Heritage Softail (ABS) and have put over 10,000 miles on it. I love how the bike fits me, but I do miss the handling and versatility of the Wee. What could be better than to have both the Heritage and the Uly?

Hello all; Purchased a 07 XB12S with low miles this past summer. This bike was unmolested and never modified, a blank canvas as they say. I am extremly happy there are so many sources for infromation and parts.I had always admired Buells, but owned other brands of sportbikes. It's a true "character" bike. All smiles!

Hey, I am a new Buell xb12r owner but not new to bikes. I enjoy going fast on twisty pavement. I got to ride Deal's Gap last summer and plan to make a track day at VIR this summer. I live in Raleigh NC so I am not too far from great riding in any direction.

New to Buells, but long time rider.
This is a great forum, it's been tons of help already!
Got a '99 S3 last fall, have been working over the winter to change the square headlight/fairing over to a round light with flyscreen, along with some other additions. No permanent mods that can't be undone.
Love the Tubers!

Hello from Alabama!

My name is Mark and I own TSP Cycles, a small family operated motorcycle service, repair and customization shop.

Anyway, my wife and I spend a lot of time riding, and she has always wanted a bike of her own. She has had a couple, but the Sportster was too heavy for her, and she outgrew the Kikker, so I picked her up a Buell Blast a couple months ago, and she is wearing it out!

She rides this thing everywhere, and she loves it. I have been lurking on these forums for a bit as I ordered her parts for a more custom look, and now I am just waiting on arrival for all the parts!

She has for her bike:
K&N intake
V&H exhaust
low profile seat
Demon fairing
superbike bars
bar end mirrors
custom paint

I will post up pics when I have it completed!

Anyway, she will be creating an account here too, as this seems to be far and away the best place for Blast related questions.
