Has anyone done this before? Ive got a GSXR front end going on my tuber and am going to use the dual radial brake setup and was hoping I could attach the GSXR rotors to the buell tuber wheel. Does anyone know if there is a difference in the mounting holes for the two rotors or size? If the mounting pattern is the same and lets say and they dont quite align properly with the calipers, could I have a spacer fabbed to mount between the rotor/wheel to align them or is that a no no? Also, does anyone know the ID of the tuber wheel bearings (to see if the GSXR axle will work)? If I cant make it work I can just use a GSXR wheel as they look almost identical to the tuber ones but figured might as well keep the wheel I have if it can be used Thanks, Spencer |

Does anyone know the dimensions of the wheel bearings (Inside and outside diameter) for tuber wheels or the bolt spacing/patttern/size/offset for the rotors? Also, does anyone happen to know the OD of the tuber steering stem or ID of the bearings for the steering stem? My bike is a few hours away at my shop and Im trying to figure out a few things Thanks, Spencer (Message edited by rsm688 on February 03, 2013) |

Well I got some info on the GSXR Forks/Rotors and was wondering if anyone knew the specs for the buell? Both are 5 bolt pattern rotors GSXR: Brake Disc Diameter: 298 Brake Disc Offset: 0 Disc Bolt PCD: 91 Buell (i found these numbers on this forum, no clue if they are right): The rotor is 340mm in diameter 82.7mm PCD with a 6mm offset and 60.5mm hole in the center Can anyone who know what all this stuff means point me in a direction to make my tuber wheel work or is there any alternate rotors from other bikes that mount to tuber wheels? Thanks, Spencer |

The GSXR brakes ARE radial so I could use spacers to fit 340mm buell calipers but not sure about the offest |

Having done some front end swaps on other bikes, I will try and answer some of your questions. first, what you're suggesting has been done, but if I recall it was more of a near complete swapover, except using the tuber stem in the GSXR triples, everything else was from the suzuki: forks, modded triples, axle, wheels, rotor, calipers. So, typically you want to use at least the fork/caliper/rotor from whatever you're swapping so at least the diameter and offset are not variables. The rotor bolt patterns are not the same, as well as the offset and the diameter, as you have found out. you could make spacers to adapt either rotors to either wheel, but whats the point? you need to decide exactly what you want to use, because none of it is simply going to bolt together. Again, I would suggest swapping the buell stem into the GSXR triple (you'll have to make adapters for that as well) and using all the rest of the GSXR stuff. no idea on the ID/OD/width right off hand of any of the bearings, a good resource to find that type of information without the parts right in front of you is the customfighters.com website, and also the customer service dept. at allballs racing can be helpful. sometimes also the parts fiche available on ronayers.com or bikebandit.com list technical information like that. Also, to clear up some terms, when you say radial, are you talking about the way the caliper mounts? if so, then you mean "post mount calipers" because the radial part of "radial brakes" refers to the orientation of the master cylinder piston to the brake lever. the way the calipers mount differently with the bolt going thru the top of the caliper instead of from the side, is to reduce shear stress on the bolt, and makes no difference in stopping power unlike the radial master cylinder that does have some effect on braking feel by changing the amount of leverage required to effect the caliper pistons. hope this helps you some! |

Thanks for the information onespeedpaul, it looks like it will probably just be easier for me to sell my wheel and get a gsxr wheel and eb done with it. And yes I meant "post mount calipers". One questions, when you said I will have to make an adapter for the buell stem to fit in the GSXR triple. Is the GSXR stem larger than the buell or vice versa? Just form looks they look very similar in diamter I actually have a post over on customfighters as well haha, thanks again Thanks, Spencer |

yes, just use GSXR wheel. probably even be about same cost as what you can sell your wheel for. make sure it's all for the same generation GSXR too....there is is fair bit of stuff that's cross compatible but sometimes it is not, because suzuki did use different rotor diameters here and there, plus sometimes the rotors are most all 0 offset, but suzuki would make the wheel hub area different widths making some wheel/triple/caliper combinations not work together....TLR and hayabusa stuff can also work, but again, do your homework before purchasing. the GSXR stem is a good bit bigger diameter. Which means either have the lower triple hole welded up and rebored, or make a sleeve that presses onto the buell stem then presses into the GSXR triple....both pretty difficult without an experienced machinist that's pretty interested in doing it. |

Well I have a machinist buddy (head machinist for the Winchester Ammo plant here) that builds harleys on the side so I can get him to do it (gonna have him machine down my rear sprocket as well). Would it be better to weld the whole think up or use a sleever? Do you know about the length difference between the two? I wonder if I could just have the GSXR stem turned down to the size of the tuber stem on a lathe Thanks, Spencer |

The gsxr stem is likely hollow so if you have to turn it down too much you probably won't have enough meat left for it to do its job safely... Plus, turning it down will make you have too big a hole in the top triple tree, so you have to machine a type of top nut that will take up that space as well as clamp down on the top tree |

I had an idea, Aren't some of the buell forks/lower trees 54mm? My gsxr forks are 54mm so I could probably use a Lower tree and just modify or make a top tree to work. If so, what model years had the 54mm fork tubes? Thanks, Spencer |

if that's the case, your buell triple is for 54mm tube, and the suzuki tube is 54mm then yes it will fit. however, you wil need to take into account the fork tube spacing from each other. mainly this could cause issues with the rotor placement in relation to the calipers and the wheel.... |

Well I had the non inverted M2 forks so no chance of using mine, from what I've read the s1/s1w are 54mm diameter tubes I didnt even think about the fork tube spacing at all, that could pose a problem |

yeah, you'll need the other triples, of which i have an extra set also how much of an issue depends which fork legs you plan to use, the older side-mount style caliper legs are easier to solve spacing issues with washers/spacers if the need spaced inward. on the post mount, if they need spaced out, you'll need rotor flange spacers or for inward take material off the hub area of the wheel if possible |

actually i'd trade you straight up if you want, i have a blast project i want to put M2 forks on... |

I did something similar with my S1. Details here: http://www.ukbeg.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=206121# p206121 |

Thanks for all the info guys. I think I might just order a set of the conversion triples. They look awfully nice. I was trying to save money and not go that route hit with all the measurements and machining required to use the stock trees the time/money for machining just is not worth it. I spoke with that guy and he knows what he's talking about Thanks, Spencer |
