Hi Andros,

The Compufire is still a shunt-type regulator that is just more efficient than the stock Ducati part and therefore will most likely do nothing to extend the life of your stator. The CE 605 SB is a proper series rectifier regulator and will unload your stator hopefully keeping it cooler and making it last.

I have installed a CE 605 SB on my 1125R and yes it is very large and needs airflow so can't be mounted under the seat but it's not that difficult to wire up and mount. I'm always getting around 14 volts so it's working very nicely.

Thank you! Can it be mounted underneath the seat but OUTSIDE?

Problem is, they will not sell the CE 605 SB to outside the USA.

Rimsy,

Compufire website says that their regulators are series type:

quote:

The Compu-Fire voltage regulators have series type
circuitry which allows both the stator and regulator
to operate at a lower temperature by controlling the
stator output. When the battery reaches full charge,
the stator output is switched off by the regulator. The
output voltage of the regulator is calibrated to meet
the charging requirements of modern maintenance free
batteries. The regulators are available in a chrome billet
or black finned case.

Running it for a while, and no problems so far. It fits the stock location, you just need to trim the undertray a bit. 40A is more than enough for our bikes.

Definitely the CE-605 SB. I wouldn't buy a compufire.

Compufire has a history of not supporting the use of that regulator on our bike, and leaving buyers high-and-dry on warranty issues.

My CE-605 is mounted under my tail section (so, under the seat, but outside), and gets enough airflow back there that it hasn't been a problem.

I also hooked mine into the stock harness. Some folks (including the directions that come with the CE-605) like to hook it directly to the battery, but that's just a shoddy solution to me.

Baf I completely agree about wiring it properly. Not directly to the battery.

Publish a pinout diagram for the regulator and it will be obvious if it is shunt or series.

If it uses the stock connector, it can't be series.

Which connector are you talking about?

Sportster Mann,

That's not true. I live in Australia and recently purchased a CE 605 from the US. Postage was extremely fast and Jack was very helpful. Postage was about $40 if I remember correctly.

The wires coming from the stator, and going to the battery.

Rimsy, I was only stating what it says on their website.

I will have to drop them a line when I have some spare cash to see if they will send to the UK.

You can zoom in on any of those pictures. I drilled holes in the undertray and bolted the regulator right to that. Put some techflex over the wiring to keep it neat, and ran it down and in.

Last one is there just to show how I hooked it up - I actually bought some anderson connectors and cut the stock voltage regulator harness in half. I've got one on the end that hooks to the bike with the stock connector, one on the lead to from stock regulator, and one on lead from the CE-605. The connector's that are unhooked in that pic are the stock regulator, I didn't bother taking it out, so if by some chance the CE-605 craps out, I can pop my seat off and switch back to the stock regulator by swapping two connectors. Upgrade harness was also removed before taking this picture.

As far as performance, this is with the CE-605 after idling for several minutes after a ride. It pretty much stays in the mid-to-high 13's when sitting still. I did tweak my fan maps though, which helped a little.

I really have to get around to writing all of this up.... lol
